Several weeks ago, I stumbled across an opportunity I couldn’t pass up and purchased a 370Z Roadster, Touring Sport edition.
With winter approaching I now have garage space issues which unfortunately is forcing me to sell the 280ZXT. After owning the car for the past 17 years it’s time to pass it on.

Regrettably For Sale: Fully loaded 1981 280ZX Turbo; garage kept for at least the past 21 years; 101k miles; has typical 280ZX rust issues in a few spots; runs great and is a fun ride.

Performance modifications include the following:

 5 speed manual transmission conversion
 300ZX ECU and MAF Upgrade
 ACT Street Performance Clutch
 3.9 R200 differential swap
 Greddy Profec B Spec II boost controller
 Spearco Intercooler
 HKS SSQV Super Sequential Blow Off Valve
 Innovate WB O2 and Air Fuel Gauge
 Porsche 911 Turbo Fuel pump
 K&N cold air intake
 Cusco strut bar
 Eibach Progressive lowering coil springs
 Tokico HP struts
 Custom 3” SS downpipe & mandrel bent exhaust
 Magnaflow hi flow catalytic converter & dual tip muffler
 Autometer Boost, Fuel Pressure gauges
 New Yokohama tires (less than 200 miles)
 Shortened shifter

$8,500

:( Awww, this hurts. As much as I applaud your new acquisition, over the period of 10 years I have come to associate you with this car. Somehow it became the gravitational point of our after-meeting parking lot discussion meetings; everyone just sort of "met at Phil's car" and spent the final 40 minutes together hanging around it until the mosquitos found us. It wasn't an arranged thing and nobody spoke about it; it was just a natural gravitation. it's just so familiar to us that we feel comfortable around it.

Ha! I remember my outrage when you announced your intention to mount that Porsche fuel pump on your ZX! Doesn't seem to have harmed anything. You also gave the entire Club a physics lesson on vacuum when your fuel tank collapsed. Should you mention a new tank on your list of improvements?

Most of the Club has followed your ZX on countless road trips and cruises of Lime Rock Park Racetrack. It is a fixture of the CTZCC and I hope someone within the Club buys it so it can continue to keep us company. I have almost as many photographs of this car as I have of my own. (Almost).

I've searched for anything I could find to indicate the value of this specific model, but came up with nothing. They are so rare (with the Turbo in that year) that nobody's selling them. They just hold onto them as investments, I guess. Anyway, $8500 seems a very 'light' price to ask for such a well-loved, well-maintained bit of Z history. I've seen non-Turbo models sell for that price. This sounds like a very good deal to me. Many S-30 cars are now running up into the $30K range, which will certainly increase the value of the S-31s and others.

I hope you drive it to the picnic with a sign on it; it would surely be gone before the end of the day. That way we'd keep it in the Club and it will be cared for by yet another Z fanatic.

I would wish you 'good luck with sale' Phil, but I wouldn't really mean it. :?
Now you're gonna have to change your eMail address.

Frank T

I thought it would be gone by now. Our changing Zeasons tend to slow the sales of sports cars during the Fall; nobody wants to buy a car they have to store all winter and can't drive until Spring. California has one Zeason, where they can drive them year-round. Conversely, car sales pick up here in the Spring, when everybody and his brother wants a sports car or a motorcycle.

Not wishing you any bad luck, but personally I wish you wouldn't sell this car. If you must you must ~ but at this time of year you would probably lose it to California or Arizona on eBay.

Thanks Frank. I haven't listed it anywhere else yet. I was trying to avoid Craigslist but I guess I have no choice at this point.

I wince every time I walk into the garage and see it sitting there... It's hard to let it go.

We've already put more mileage on the 370Z since August then I have on the 280ZX in the last two years.

They both do look good in the garage though!

Since it's no longer on Craigslist, can we assume the car sold? :?:

Looks like my son Josh will be taking over ownership of the Z! We've spent many an hour out in the garage working on it during the past 17 years so we're both happy it will stay in the family.

Looks like I need to find winter storage for it though until he can liquidate his VW collection. He always envisioned owning a Z someday, it's just coming sooner than he planned.

Thanks for asking!

Ahhh... good for you.

I have to admit that I'd been seriously contemplating purchasing it - it's my car's twin and it would have been incredible to own them both. I'd been holding off though, because I needed to sell the TT first (it sold on Monday). Of course now that I have the funds and the room....

Oh well - you snooze, you lose!

Congratulations on the sale! I'll let you know if my son changes his mind!
