I'm enjoying this, step-by-step.
I sure hope the first day is video'd from inside and outside the car.

Beginning exterior reassembly.

New wheels with beefy tires. The biggest that will fit without body modification.

Lusty! Looks like they might fit an Explorer!

That's an interesting rear shock tower arrangement. I've never seen those caps before, are they part of the bar kit?

BTW, that bar might serve well as a GoPro mount, Ja?

The rear strut tower covers shown were OEM for 1977/78 280z. They also conceal the seat belt retractors. Only took Nissan 7 years to figure it out! :D

Great idea for a camera mount when I get this bad boy to Watkins Glen!!

Rear bumper mounted. Mounting a 240 bumper on a 280 isn’t as simple as one might think but it sure looks a heckuva lot better than the park bench crash bumpers that were originally there! And a LOT lighter too!

Getting closer JT! :)

During your shakedown runs, you might want to give it some extra "left rudder" to compensate for all that thrust coming from the left-hand exhaust. :P

No. no! Right rudder! (Or a lot of right Trim).
Left rudder, combined with left thrust, would spin him!

Nope, left rudder would be required.

JT, we disavow any responsibility for what our recommendation may have on your test runs!

YES! You're right; left-sided thrust would result in the nose wanting to yaw right, as if the right wing engine quit and the left engine wants to push the nose clock-wiZe.

You should apply the LEFT rudder to compensate for that; it would put drag on the tail to make the nose yaw counter-clockwiZe. Right rudder would cause it to spin right even more.

John T, LEFT rudder!

I always wondered why I got those flight lessons for free.

Just about done! Still need to refinish the rear spoiler and attach it, but other than that pretty much good to go. Loving the BIG BF Goodrich TAs and Basset racing wheels. Suggests that this is not an average Z! :D

As soon as we get a nice winter day, a shakedown cruise is in order. Stay tuned!

Wait ~ aren't you always the loudest voice of caution when people want to drive their Zs during winter roadsalt months?? You warned Mike Tubiak about that, but he drove anyway, and his Dangerous Z lasted only one winter.

Project 530Z update:

Z BEAZT is ready for the road! Well, at least with as much as I can do. Only dialing in some gauges and the turn signals is left and I will leave that to some of my buddies who have the wiring knowledge to do the job. I must say that I am proud of myself the way that the car turned out. I learned that with determination and seeking out knowledge, anything is possible. Not a concourse job, but very presentable for an amateur retired car guy! I’ve been envisioning building a Z just like this since 1980 when a cocky college kid (me) got my ass whipped by another 240Z with a 327 Corvette engine. Well, it took over 40 years, but here we are.

And to that silver 327 240Z, NOW I’m ready for ya!!

Once the little bits are done and she’s licensed, let’s get it on the road for some shake down. Videos to follow. Stay tuned!

Hokey Smoke, Bullwinkle!
After four years and two months of work and well over 445,000 views (a Club record), we finally have in our virtual stable the dream car we kids envisioned back in the 1970s! Probably every Z owner considered slipping a small block V8 into their Z (not all that simple), and doing the work in their own garage, (not always wiZe or even possible) then strapping on their guns and going into town looking for the bad guys.

The fact that this thread has nearly 446k views already, and you haven't even taken the car out of your garage yet, demonstrates what a tremendous fantasy this has been for so many people for so long.

The old 1973 SCARAB V8 Chevys are trembling in their boots.

I really like Z-BEAZT as a license plate number. 8)

Is the old Greece NY drag strip still working?
Can you get it Dyno'd while we wait for you to register it?

Frank T

It’s out of the garage and into the trailer for a trip to my pals at Redi Imports to sort out some electrical issues with the turn signals and secondary gauges. And a fresh front end alignment. She’s running GREAT and I can’t wait until spring to start burning up some roads. And tires too no doubt.
