We are planning a "fun run" and gathering of the Z's at the Thompson Speedway in Thompson CT where we can meet, eat and take a parade lap on the track. We will have designated Z club parking near the restaurant tent. We can also watch the Connecticut Autocross and Rally Team (CART) event being conducted at the track as well. See the attached CART link for more details.

https://www.cartct.com/

Scott Mayo Thompson's track director has agreed to take us on a parade lap around the road course. There is a $5 donation fee per car which will go to a local charity. I will be sending out my trip itinerary shortly for anyone willing to join me on my trip up north to the track. Others who want company can post their trip routes as well when coming from different regions.

Event: Thompson Speedway Z Club Gathering
Where: Thompson Speedway, 200 E. Thompson Rd., Thompson CT
When: September 18, 2021 - Be there no later than 11:30AM if you wish to join the parade lap session

We encourage you to use Thompson's concession stand and restaurant and enjoy meeting up with your fellow Z friends.

For more information on the track, here is a link to the Thompson Speedway.

We hope to Z you there!

This should be a great event. The location, the track aura and the chance to drive our Zs around the road course will be exciting draws. PLUS, the weather seems to have broken in favor of cooler days, so we won't melt in the cars during the trip.

Many members have memories of the old Thompson track; for others this will be our first rodeo. Thompson is steeped in history and has been of national importance over the decades. Sports car races were held there as early as the 1950s, and the oval track has hosted stock cars since then too. The new, well-paved course has an excellent layout, containing many 'camel back' turns and elevation changes, a banked oval and an excellent high speed straightaway.

The clubhouse is comfortable and spacious, with adequate facilities. This is an outstanding place for a meeting and I know many of our members will simply bring their families back to Thompson just for Raceday fun after our introduction there.

Let's try to arrive a little earlier at 11:30 so we can have time to park and meet each other. Scott Mayo is planning to have us take our Parade Laps around noon.

Let's hope the weather is good for Saturday!

Keep checking this post for updates!

Zee U in at Thompson Speedway!

If you want we can meet at a common spot on your way there from down south.
It might make it easier for people to get together in a group with some nice roads and scenery through the "Quiet " corner of CT.

The meet up spot is a State DPW station from there it is 35 - 40 minutes to the track so we would have to leave there around 10:45 or so.

Frank C:
Some of us (me included) will be meeting up at the RT 15 NB Service Area just north of exit 63 (Merritt Pkwy North Haven area) at 9AM . The plan is to leave the service area around 9:15 take I-91N to I-84E and take exit 73 to meet up with others at the nearby Public Works lot. We will then continue on the back roads to the Speedway. I hope to see you and mellow yellow at the service area at 9 AM.

The weather looks looks good for the entire weekend guys, so lets relax and have some fun in our Z's!

Sadly I will not be able to make this event. Some last minute family is in town and after getting a hall pass for Lime Rock another one would put me deep in the dog house.

Looks like it will be a great day for you all! Look forward to seeing the photos!!

Drive Zzzafe and have fun!

WHAT A GREAT DAY! Any day you can drive your Z about 200 miles in beautiful weather is good, but when you can gather with 23 members in 14 cars, it's even better. THEN, when they put you all on a race track and let everybody go full-bore about a doZen times each lap, it's just unbearably wonderful! I lost count of how many laps around Thompson Motorsports Speedway Scott Mayo led us on in his Corvette pace car, but it seemed like about 5-6. Then we all stopped on the finish line and got out of the cars for a Photo-Op, hopped back in and went around for an extra cool-down lap.

Very proud to report there was no inter-car contact, every car looked like a winner, and as far as we can tell, nothing fell off our 50-yr-old cars.

Thanks to Thompson Operations manager Scott Mayo and CTZCC President Johnny Kish for making this happen safely, and for all the behind-the-scenes planning and coordination it took to bring it together. We saw excited, happy faces on every member and all agreed it was well worth the miles driven to get there. Thanks to the many members who came together from around CT and Rhode Island for the first time; it was a distinct pleasure to finally meet y'all and zee your beautiful cars. We hope to zee you again, often.

Pictures when I can sort them out.

Frank T
