Frank, I guess I should consider wheely bars also!!

But seriously folks....

The car was totally stock when I got it, including the radiator. I’m upgrading to a four row Champion aluminum radiator with dual electric fans. As far as the wheels, going with 15” wheels with 225/60/15 tires.

The driveline behind the LS will be a Nissan Z32 n/a 5 speed mated to the engine with a kit from G Force which includes a custom flywheel and adapter plate. Will be using a stage 2 Z32 twin turbo clutch. Driveshaft will be custom fabricated with yokes to fit the Z32 tranny and R200 differential (3.9 from a 280zx). I haven’t decided on the axles yet but they will definitely have to be upgraded to CVs from various sources.

To keep the chassis nice and straight I will probably go with subframe connectors with strut bars.

LotsZ to do!

Parts are in, most of them anyway. Stock wire harness has been disconnected, labeled and moved out of the way. Time to degrease and pressure wash the engine bay to prep it for refinishing. Over the next two weeks the suspension will be dropped for new bushings, springs and struts. All new brake components including a Toyota/Z31 front brake upgrade. Once the new limbs are ready to go, then we turn to the LS1 and drivetrain.

Happy New Year all! Stay tuned...

Amateur's advice from experience: When you disconnect and remove the power brake vacuum tube along the firewall, find a way to mark which direction that One-Way Valve hooks up and be sure to reinstall it the same way.

Please don't ask how I know that.

That Intake looks sweet. Are you planning to pull the air into this new motor from in front of the radiator? K&N filter? Just curious.

But please, no ugly hood scoops.

That car should be stunning no matter what color paint you pick, especially when you ditch those massive bumpers.

Project 530Z update:

Thanks to heated workspace, this week I cleaned up and scraped down the LS1 block and gave it a fresh coat of paint. Almost ready to bolt on shinny new headers, intake, oil pan, water pump, alternator and chrome valve covers.
And John, I am planning an intake runner to the front of the radiator with a K&N cone filter. The cooler the air, the better! This car will look like a 280Z. Until I hit the gas.
This weekend, drop the suspension for all new bushings, springs, struts and brakes. Stay tuned....

I guess there's no hope of a GMC 6-71 or 8-71 supercharger and dual quads, huh?

I see a garage door, but don't see any wall that an engine stand is mounted to! Maybe I need a different pair of glasses????

Project 530Z update:

Thanks to the big help from pals Shawn Pritchard and Frank Swiader, the entire front and rear suspension was dropped out of the chassis. Next up, lots of disassembly and cleaning. A fresh coat of paint on the components and then installation of the brand new bushings, springs, shocks, steering components and the big brake upgrade (gotta be able to stop this bad boy!).

Stay tuned...

I'm sure you know to 'capture' those shock inserts when you release them. Many horror stories about them shooting thru garage walls (or worse) when released.

Please tell Shawn I said hello if he remembers me and send him my best. Haven't seen him in years.

Project 530Z update:

With the suspension totally off the car it was time to disassemble everything so the parts can be cleaned, media blasted and painted before reassembling with brand new brakes, springs, struts, bushings and more. Thanks to pal Tom Bork for offering up his shop and expertise to help with taking everything apart. Thanks to Tom’s great instruction, for the first time I was able to totally disassemble the fearsome McPhereson struts with the springs compressed. No one got killed, so I must have done it right!

Next up, lots of time spent cleaning and painting this 43 year old steel. Stay tuned...

In exchange for his help, are you gonna let Tom throw your finished project around WGI a few times?
