Thank you Paul. I would like to see some pictures of your 260z if you wouldn't mind emailing them.

My email is jpearce1010@gmail.com

BTW, didn't we talk a bit last year at the fall outing?

Heartbreaking news. My deepest sympathies on your loss. :( I definitely wouldn't be as reserved as you sound if that happened to my all original Z.

I was looking on ebay and found this car. Definitely nothing like yours but...

Regards,
Howard

PLEASE "DELETE" - CAR WAS [b]SOLD[b - SORRY! I'll keep looking.

Thanks Howard. My Dad actually sent me that same one.

It's a huge disappointment, no question about it. Didn't have to happen either, but still, it's not the worst thing I've been through. I'm glad my wife and kids and weren't out there when it went through the yard.

When "senseless" accidents occur, I try to tell myself they are intended to spare me from some greater unknown disaster waiting for me around life's next corner.
Something really, really bad might have been prevented by removing this car at this time. All things work together for good...etc.

Rather than mourn the loss of this car, celebrate that it ever existed and that you were entrusted with it for awhile.

(This sermon from someone who didn't lose a $30,000 classic car  )

I am waiting to see how this all pans out. l am really not sure what the future is going to bring for me Z wise. One way or the other I will have one, Z-fever had a hold of me. Always has. But I don't know which Z it will be, or if mine can be saved (or should be).

I spoke to a fellow nearby who had a series one 240z that sounds beautiful, it's a restored yellow on black car. Not for sale currently however. I did ask him to keep me in mind.

Z fever is highly contagious, there is no known cure, and recovery is not expected.

pics sent. I was admiring your car last year, taking lots of pics for my 260z build...........Well how it is in Japan, when a business or corporation has fallen, another business or corporation will jump in to help out. So I read. So if my 260z makes your day, It's not like I dont have a nice 240z already, and I have an early 72 to restore...............just not as nice as the 260, very ruff matter fact. Either way, may the Zen of the Z be with you, our fellow Z brother.

Thank you again for graciously offering your 260z project to me. It is a very restorable shell, would make a very fine Z.

An independent adjuster was here to evaluate my Z last night, and will be submitting an estimate to the insurance company. I will have to see what happens here before I know what my next move will be.

I spoke with him today to find out how he's doing with the estimate. He had been having trouble with his computer and had gotten it straightened out just this morning, so he said it will be completed this weekend.

Remind him that it is one of fewer than 4,000 early 260 cars sent here to the USA. Here's an 11 year-old breakdown of 260 features from Hemmings:

https://www.hemmings.com/magazine/hsx/2 ... 24363.html

The prices of course have skyrocketed since then, along with the prices of all other streetable S-30 cars. (My own is now worth over a million 8) ). Note the mention of the difficulty finding an ORIGINAL early 260 described in the article. Your car was worth *probably* about $28-$35,000 at an auction.

Good example, Howie!

This is a high-mileage big-bumper car, needing repaint, and whatever he's trying to describe with the driver's seat, and he's STILL asking $13,000 for it. It's worth it at that price.

Jay's car was better than this one in every detail, and was worth twice that price.

True. But the 260s are the rarest of the S-30 series Z cars. The early-year "small bumper" cars are the more sought-after (which Jay's car was) and Datsun began offering some very limited options (2+2, automatic trans) on the 260s which make them even more exclusive today.

Jay's was a low-mileage small-bumper early-year 260 in excellent condition. Most Zs get modified / customized over the years, and/or get rusty or smashed somewhere along the way in their 45-year-history. Jay's car was as nearly perfect as any 260 I've ever seen. It wasn't Concours, but it was one of the best drivers I know of. It appeared all-original, unmodified, in very solid condition.

Among the very-rare one-model-year Z cars, his 260 was wayyyyy up there in desirability. At a professional auction, I think he could have 'asked for' and 'got' $30,000 for his car.
