Yeah, I know I'm the new guy but would anyone be interested in a mini cruise down on the CT shoreline where I live? Here's my idea at the moment (subject to modification of course):

When: Saturday August 4, meet at 6pm (rain date Saturday August 11)

Where: Meet at the commuter lot at exit 70 off I-95 (easy to get to coming down I-395 or Rt. 9 as well)

Mini-Cruise: Down to the charming town of Old Saybrook to cruise the shoreline - including a drive-by of the Katherine Hepburn estate, then back up to the Old Lyme shore. If we wanted to extend the cruise, we could also cruise the Hammonasset State Park & beach before heading back to Old Lyme.

Final Stop: Meet up at the historic A.C. Petersen at Hallmark shoreline drive-in for dinner and/or an ice cream. At over 100 years old, it's one of Connecticut's oldest ice cream and clam bar joints. Large parking lot for all of the Z's and I'm sure plenty of good conversation from curious locals!

One more idea: It might be fun to alert the local TV station and/or newspaper for a public interest story. It would give our club a bit of publicity plus be free advertising for the diner - a win-win to be sure!

I'd organize everything...just show up, cruise and have Z time of your life! I'm curious as to what everyone thinks so feel free to chime in. Hope we can make this happen. :)

I would love to do all of that except the hammonassett visit; too much sea salt there for my Z. Our member Keith hultmark lives out there and has just sold his Z (bought a Porsche) and knows the area well. You should meet him so he might come along with us. Not sure of my availability on those dates yet but the idea is surely a good one.

Yes, good point about sea salt...plus too much tourist traffic now that I think about it further. So let's make it for Saturday August 4 at 6 pm - all other details the same minus the Hammonasset run. More details will follow as the date gets closer.

Anyone in?

Why at 6 PM ?
Although I can visit my mom in Old Saybrook wouldn't it be better to meet when there is more daylight ahead then 2 hours ?

Also the weekend of the 4th of August is a busy one by Katherine Hepburn's house as it is Member Guest golf weekend in Fenwick.

Oh, whoops. Well, there must be plenty of ways to make this happen. Let's keep tossing it around. I think it's a good idea.

Golf weekend won't deter me! It's Summertime - folks should be out doing stuff just like I'm trying to organize. :) Golf on, me hearties and we'll drive on!

The rationale behind a leave time of 6 was simply that it's not a long cruise and not to take up so much of the day. But I can see the point, so how about a meet time of 4:30 at the commuter lot and plan to roll at 5pm (Bob) sharp?

I'm certainly interested. Need to get started this year. After a horrible and expensive start I will finally be back cruising starting next week.
A 6:00PM start is a do-able time for me. Plus it will be somewhat cooler at that time. Earlier, there is a chance I won't make it do to work obligations. If we do decide to make it earlier, I could maybe meetup somewhere. I will be traveling 95 North. Hope we can get this happening!

Nice to hear from you Rich! I'll try and keep the start time as fair as possible to everyone. We all have schedules and lives, etc etc so I'll just keep count of what's best for the majority and then others can make their decisions beyond that. I'm good with a 5 or 6 roll time - prolly would prefer 5:00, especially if we have some media coverage (better light for photo and video). If the 5pm roll time wins out, others can still meet us later at Hallmark in Old Lyme for a bite to eat and to enjoy a nice lineup of Z's in the parking lot! I'm guessing we'd arrive there around 6:30 with a 5:00 roll time.

I'm definitely in and it looks like I can count on Rich, so that's 2. If I can get minimum of 5 folks and their Z's to commit by Saturday July 21, we're ON and I'll alert the media. The more, the better, so let's try and make this happen. If you're interested, please reply and indicate your preferred meet time:

1) Meet at 4:30, roll by 5pm sharp -or-
2) Meet at 5:30, roll by 6pm sharp

Woo hoo, can't wait!

I'll want some more time to determine whether I can stop my overheating problem. If I feel confident in my Z by then, I'll be there.

Due to lack of interest, the Shoreline Mini-cruise is cancelled.
Sorry
