UPDATE:

Laura Reale was recently released from prison after serving only four years of an eight year sentence for the death of Colin Foote. She will still be subject to certain restrictions per the original sentencing. Colinslaw now requires repeat traffic offenders to perform community service and attend driving re-training. Only 2 of the 198 people subjected to the new law did not complete the service and retraining. So the law is working and if you live or drive in RI, you have Robin to thank for a safer driving environment!

Here's footage from a recent newscast on this topic, which includes an interview with Robin:

OK, fine. Give her 4 years of mandatory community service at the Colin Memorial park. I'm sure there's plenty of backbreaking work she could do there, and it would make her ride her bicycle back and forth thru that intersection at least twice a day, to reflect on her sins.

Seriously. I couldn't think of a more-fitting task for her. And make her speak at public school assemblies about what she did.

Colin's family and friends could monitor her work progress and show her which trees to cut down and chop up.

Colin would have turned 33 years old ystrdy. Thought of him and Mallory and wondered if they'd have kids yet.

Good job, Paul. You beat us all to the punch this year.
Seems like only yesterday, doesn't it? I can still see him smiling.

One aggravating part of this thread is that all of our links to ProJo now lead to today's current news. In other words, we can no longer look back at the then-current news about this tragedy. Not sure why they get updated like that; today's news has nothing to do with Laura Reale so we no longer know where she is or what use she's making of her parole release.
If anyone has updated info on her, please share it. Personally, I would like to hear she has turned her life around and dedicated her time to something constructive, trying to make some restitution for the damage she's done.

Yes, today is the sixth anniversary of this very tragic event. May we hold Robin, Maryann, Mallory and Colin's many friends in our thoughts and hearts as we commemorate his passing.

Through Robin, I have continued to get to know Colin. What a fine young man he was.

When this case was fresh, my letter to the Judge said Colin was the type of guy anybody would welcome into their family with open arms, and the caliber of man every parent hopes their daughter finds and marries. It was the sincerest endorsement I could give him. He truly was special.
I understand Mallory has carried on with her life and has finally met someone, and that's good. I felt extremely bad for her when her fiancé was taken away from her, dashing all her life's plans. She and Colin had dated since they were kids.

Colin would be 34 now, with kids of his own and a dog and a house with that white picket fence Mallory wanted. He'd probably have a garage full of early Zs, too.

Paul, you always manage to beat the rest of us to the punch on this each year. Don't you ever sleep? Do you set your alarm to get up before the rest of us and make the first entry on here? :-)

I thought of Colin earlier this week and intended to be the first entry on here this year, but the early bird got the worm again.

How can it be 8 years already?

We've been without our buddy Colin for 9 years now. I know it seems like just yesterday, but that's an illusion.
Spare a thought for the Foote family and for Colin's finance Mallory, wherever she might be today. It's good to keep Colin's memory alive among us.
