Anyone have a distributor shaft for an 82-83 280zx turbo they'd like to sell? Might even be interested in the distributor too.

Thanks,

Must it be a Turbo? Were they different?

Check with Paul ~ he has two of everything, and I actually can't think what year the Club Partz ZX is right now (tired  )

Yes Frank, they are different. The 82-83 has extra splines in it and inside the distributor itself is a crankshaft position sensor (the 81 is hollow).

I have both the distributor and the shaft that goes with it that I won't be using. They both worked fine when run on my car. Also have a set of nice looking plug wires if you're interested.

Just checked the FAST parts software and the 82-83 turbo distributor shaft has a different part number then the 82-83 NA Frank.

Phrog, would you be interested in selling the shaft and dist? I'm collecting the parts to do the Z31 ECU/MAF swap and this is the remaining pieces that I need.

My 81 has the crank mounted CAS.

Sure thing, I'll take a picture in the morning just to confirm its the model you need. Out of curiosity, will you be retaining the crank-mounted CAS?

No, the Z31 ECU needs a better CAS signal then that provided by the crank mounted version. The swap also requires that you throw in a chopper wheel from a Z31 distributor. Thanks and no hurry on the pictures!

Here is the distributor.

Unfortunately, I found problems. The cap has a gouge in it, and the wires directly before the plug are obviously the originals from the 1980's and thus are heat fatigued and cracked. The exposed copper is in perfect condition, but the insulation is crap. As stated before, it runs perfectly, but these pose a hazard of shorting/signal crossing unless addressed (or if you have another harness to plug into it directly). You would probably have had to rewire it anyway, as the plug OUT is meant to connect to a Haltech harness. Let me know if you're still interested. The Distributor/Oil Pump drive shaft is immaculate.

For everyone else with the questions about the differences between these distributors, here are some extra pictures. Unfortunately, I searched everywhere for the '81 dizzy and couldn't find it.

L28 shaft on bottom, '82-'83 turbo shaft on top.

That's about all for now.

Phrog, I was able to locate my 82-83 distributor and verified the part number so it looks like I only will need the distributor shaft if you're interested in selling it. Then I'll only need to find the CAS harness and the swap can go on!!

sorry for the late reply. I had been trying to find the price range online so I could give you a fair deal. On thezstore.com they list the non turbo driveshaft at $86.

I'd take $80 for the whole dizzy.

Hi Paul. I already have 2 82 turbo dizzy's and an extrz 81 dizzy. Purchased the extra 82 just to get the CAS plug / harness. So I'm just looking for the shaft. Is your dizzy from a turbo model? I believe the NA never switched to the dizzy mounted CAS, but I may be wrong...

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with this, been pretty busy lately. I'm a little wary about selling them separately also, since I can't seem to find the shaft available for purchase anywhere...
