Frank, it's kind of you to take up for Kathy and me and I understand
where you are coming from. It is very gracious of you and much
appreciated. But I wonder whether I might not have been the same
way if someone else owned Lucky 13? I understand the sin of
covetousness, but I am pretty sure I could be found guilty of it.

I think the ZCar.com site was even more brutal than the ClassicZ site
if I recall correctly. I'm still not too adept at using this computer, or I
would try to give y'all specific references. But something interesting
eventually evolved with time, going back a few months now. Two, or
maybe three of the greatest detractors actually ended up coming to my
aid, if not defense, when they finally started to "get it," and started to
kick some butt on my behalf. It was greatly appreciated. You see, I
myself never really had any truly hard feelings. Don't get me wrong,
nobody likes to be denigrated (do you like my fancy word for "put
down"?). But I held all the aces. I knew the truth of the matter.

And giving all the credit where it is due: yes, the owner of 26thZ was
at least incredulous and maybe even disbelieving at first, but so were
about 173,000 other 240Z owners (minus attrition). I want everyone to
know that at the Convention, Chris and I not only met, but became what
I would consider to be very good friends. Chris was my go-to guy for
whatever guidance I needed, or for any question I had, and for all he did
for me (and for the ZCCA) I owe him more gratitude than I could hope
to repay. If at any time there was animosity-- and I don't think there
was-- there is certainly none now.

Well, it's now the first week of August and I'm happy to announce that Lucky#13 has safely returned home from Nashville.

While there, #13 was seen, scrutiniZed, filmed and photographed by every interested Z aficionado who cared to stop by. Nothing was hidden ~ the car was available to the public to see and examine.

Anyone with any lingering doubts about its authenticity (which were LOUDLY expressed last August) has had the chance to scrutinize the car openly. There should be no doubts in anyone's mind (however narrow) that this car is the Real Deal.

I will be very interested in zeeing some retractions, corrections, or outright APOLOGIES posted on the original Thread on the ClassicZ.Com website. The car was called a fake and it was insinuated that Rick was a fraud, who was trying to generate some sort of snake-oil scheme to make money off #13.

Now that all of the Doubting Thomases have had the chance to see the car themselves and satisfy themselves as to its authenticity, and have had the opportunity to MEET OUR FRIEND RICK MORGAN IN PERSON AND SEE THAT HE IS AN HONEST, HUMBLE, GOD-FEARING MAN OF INTEGRITY, perhaps (perhaps) they will find it in their hearts to retract at least SOME of the insulting and offensive comments they made about him on ClassicZ a year ago?

It certainly would go a long way in mending some sore feelings.

Some of the comments and authors which stick in my mind are found here, in case nobody but me remembers them:

Bravo Frank, bravo. Well said.

Not all participants on classiczcars.com are at fault, but there are a few self-proclaimed experts that are regulars there and are the most rude, obnoxious and opinionated louts I have ever seen. The way they spoke of #13 AND Rick was mean, insulting, ill informed and just plain rude. A couple of times I took issue with the mean spirited tone and was supported by some, but my calling the offenders out on the carpet merely drew their ire all the more.

Those of you that truly know Rick know what a genuine gentleman he is. I think the fact that #13 surfaced after all the years AND the fact that Rick was the loyal custodian of it AND now that he was getting attention more than 30 years later was more than some HUGE egos could stand. So the cat claws came out.

It was nice that #13 was invited to the recent ZCON in Nashville to celebrate its place in Z history, however why did the committee choose to display #13 WAY OUT in the field with the other "people's choice" cars. In fact it was in the second furthest row away from the main show, parked with no significance whatsoever. Why was it not up front with all of the other historic cars that were obviously set up in a more prominent place. An oversite??? Once again Rick and #13 were not given the respect they deserved, especially at the national celebration of the Z.

Like Mr. K often said, "Love Cars, Love People, Love Life". Some in the Z world seem to forget to enjoy the ride. And they know who they are.

My 2 centZ, you may or may not agree but thanks for allowing me to speak.

Peaze.

Thanks for your kind words, Rick. It was a pleasure meeting you and Kathy. I had a few opportunities to watch you having a good time and it made me smile. That's what the conventions are all about. As you probably discovered, everyone there has a significant Z which they are very proud of. You and Kathy, of course, fit right in. Hope to see you in Savannah if not sooner.

I wish you "Doubting Thomas's" would climb down off your high horse, come to a ZCCA convention and see for yourself what it is all about. As I just said, EVERYONE brought their significant Z. Four hundred of them. No one's Z was better than another's. That's what the convention is all about. And this year, with the help of Nissan, the car show was astounding. We won't see that sort of collection again for a very long time. And certainly not in those numbers. Shoot me an e-mail the next time you park 400 cars... The car show had a plan and a schedule. In order for Rick to display his car where it was intended, he would have had to arrive earlier than he wanted to. "People's Choice" was Rick's choice; and frankly, it made that end of the field all that much better. Rick's car was on display all week in front of the hotel. Does that not meet your specification?

Let's see, wasn't kindness one of the Z owners traits..........to wave to another Z was a trait I thought was cool when growing up. Are these the people who don't wave anymore John? I agree #13 should have been first row, we could have just pushed it up there and found a spot. I'm not going to put any blame on any one, for the Folks that ran the show had an overwhelming job themselves, they didn't expect it to be this big from what I recall. Some who joined us at the bar at the end of the night looked like they just ran 100 laps, they worked hard to put on this show, so many thanks.
The point is, Rick had a great time, I had a great time, and our wives had a great time, that's real important........and so many others had a great time. I notice there are alot of different breeds of Z owners........At the bottom of my list are those that just go out and BUY an already done Z and the only work they do to it is dig in their wallet. Then there are the hard core Z owners that do all their own work, break some knuckles, draw some blood, but have the scars of satisfaction when done. There are those who have had their Z's from day one and still keep em going, WOW. There are those who go to the extreme and race em to the bitter end, WOW, and even more WOW when they win. If you just have a Z and like being part of the family.........."Enjoy The Ride" Ride in Peace or Ride in Pieces.

Today, 10August2010, marks the ONE YEAR anniversary of our 'rediscovery' of Lucky#13 and our introduction to Rick and Kathy!

Just one year ago tonight, Phrog and I had taken our Zs to the North Haven hot rod cruise-in to see if we could generate any interest in the old Z cars.

We did, and among those who stopped by to look the Zs over was this friendly guy who tried to convince me he owned 1969 240Z #HLS30-00013.

Yeah, SURE you do, buddy! You're just confused and forgot to take your pills. 8)

I was the one who needed pills when I actually saw the car the next day!

THANKS for a good first year, Rick and Kathy, and for your friendship to this Club.

Frank

WOW!!!!!!-- Is it a year already, Frank? It was just predestined that we
should meet you and Phrog. If we had met just "inny-ol'-buddy" (anyone,
in TX talk) who owned a Z, (meaning a CTZCC non-member), none of
this would have ensued and another inch of dust and another dozen
cobwebs would have accumulated on each vehicle.

It's nice to know I don't have the amnesia or other geriatric mental
dysfunction I once was suspected to have. Fortunately I can still count
up to 13 as long as I can take one shoe off.

Because of that chance encounter, I now find that a computer is useful
other than for a paper weight or a desk decoration.

And we find we aren't the only ones left on the planet who adore the old
original ZCars. If Obama, Pelosi, and Reed, and the CT Senate, don't rip
off what little we get for retirement, we'll be able to get those babies
checked out and made roadworthy within a few months.

Sure would be nice to get our membership date adjusted back to Aug 10
since we actually joined the Club that very night! It would be a way to
commemorate "the find" in perpetuity.

YOU are thanking US for a good first year and for our friendship? I think
that should be reversed. WE thank every Club member, as well as every
Z freak we have met around the country by internet or in person, for
YOUR friendship and encouragement. We know what it feels like to be
adopted into a loving family!

It just gets gooder and gooder!

"Z" Does the world good. Happy Anniversary to Rick & Kathy's #13 and introduction to the Z family, or should I say welcome back. It's been great meeting such wonderful people, all from one little car, with one little letter...."Z" :D

Thanks, Paul, you are so much more than kind. And not only for the nice
compliment above, but also for the terrific assistance getting Lucky 13
into her "penalty box" when she began to act up, down in TN. Friends, I
want everybody to know that Paul is one brother that this Club could not
do without. And if y'all were to meet his wife Patti (y?), you would also
find that she is a real doll.

Just curious, Rick - how exactly did your car 'act up' in TN? I know that it was recently serviced by Mr. Vinny B., so I figured she was good to go for the next 100,000 miles! Just curious and a little concerned, given that your car is probably the most significant car in the entire Z world and all..

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere... I've been out of z loop for a while ;)

Why thank you Rick. After talkin with Vinny, I think it's just a clogged fuel filter underneath the car. He only had so much time to get done what he had to get done, the fuel tank is rusty inside and most likely the cause. IMO, not a big deal for a car that sat for 30 years. All in time.

Right you are, Paul, Vinny had mentioned that to me too, when we first
picked up the car. In fact, I think he said he had installed an inline fuel
filter back by the tank, in addition to the one up by the R/F fender. But
I wouldn't have thought a fuel filter could load up nearly so quickly.

But me, being the mechanical "genius" that I am,  don't
understand how that even relates to the fact that the engine will just not
turn over w/o a jump start. Even though fuel starvation is a possible,
maybe the probable, reason 13 conked out in Nashville to begin with,
seemingly she should turn over either with or without fuel.

So, I conclude that we are actually dealing with at least TWO problems
here, one electrical and one fuel. I think I would like for the car to be
able to turn over on her own battery even if she did not fire, then I
would consider that problem solved and move on to correct the fuel
situation to see if she would then fire and keep running.

Does that seem like a logical sequence, or do I have it backwards? It
seems to me that if I corrected the FUEL FIRST (PRIOR to the electrical),
I could cause a flooding condition by pumping unburnt fuel while diddling
around with the electrical. Thereby CREATING my own condition as an
obstacle to firing. Yes or no?

:?: :?: :?: ~Rick~ :?: :?: :?:

2 problems, that's not bad. I started out with more than that. One of the guys there said your engine bay filter was empty, so either the rear one is clogged, or gas gauge is not working and you just need gas. Your other post has all kinds of ides for your electrical issue, which I would work on first, IMO. One guy even offered to help.
