10Nov1775: Happy 245th birthday to everyone who ever earned the Eagle Globe and Anchor of the United States Marine Corps.

Just 5 weeks into their own commissioning, our Continental Navy discovered they could not survive without Marines aboard the ships with them. As John Paul Jones "Father of the American Navy" openly confessed, "a ship without Marines is like a coat without buttons".

The United States has the finest army, navy, coastguard, airforce and space force in the world.
But the American taxpayer gets more bang-for-his-buck from the Marines than from any other single investment of his tax dollar.

In the history of our nation, fewer than 7% of all citizens have been veterans.

Fewer than 1% of our population have ever earned the title of United States Marine.
Happy Birthday, Leathernecks.
