Howdy Frank,

Thank you for the few minutes of peace. In these confusing, troubled times, when we don't know what is just around the bend, it's wonderful to hear these classic melodies and basic words of life and reality.

Here's a back atcha that I listen to now and again. Not only are the voices wonderful, but the message is easy to understand.

Outstanding. Wish I could sing bass like Christian Davis!

Do you remember Ernest Jennings Ford (Tennessee Ernie Ford) singing 16 Tons?
Naw, you're probably too young. 8)

Another day older and deeper in debt? Naw! I'm not old enough to remember that one either! :P

Amazing how memory fades when we get "another day older and deeper in debt".

As a kid, in the mid 50s, I listened to WAAT out of Newark, NJ. A country DJ named Don Larkin "barkin" had two 3? hour sessions, morning and afternoon, of country music. I remember seeing the building and tower just of the Jersey tnpke.

I met a guy at Fort Gordon, GA who was active in bluegrass circles. He and I kept in touch for a while after separation. Mike Auldridge passed on a few years ago. Check out his recording of Maiden's Prayer on youtube.

Just had to post this recording by Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver. About as close to a church I will get! The basics and clean living are enough for me! Life was more simple then.

I love bluegrass harmony.
My mom could only sing harmony. She never sang a song's main line, even when she sang solo. She had a good voice and a note-perfect ear and we kids were raised to immediately seek the harmonies for any song. How great it felt to learn my youngest daughter was born with the exact same gift. No matter what song you begin singing, she immediately begins harmonizing with it, just like mom did.

And another group I have recently stumbled over. Foxes and Fossils are a father/daughter effort out of the Greater Atlanta area. They have been together for about 10 years now, so I suspect the girls are all out of high school. They cover other groups' most-successful songs but they sound pretty professional themselves.

Hey Frank and John,

We've been throwing some great musical sounds around.
I thought I would let you know there is a show at the Kate in Old Saybrook, reschedued to 5 May 2021 that might interest you.

Chris Hillman with Herb Pedersen and John Jorgensen will be on stage. These guys were the backbone of one of my favorites...Desert Rose Band. My brothers, Doug and Mark, and I will attend. The wives have to make other plans!!

Maybe they can hold 3 spaces in front for Z cars.

Have a listen to an old Osborne Brothers tune performed by Desert Rose Band:

Any group who sings with Emmylou Harris is forever blessed!

Sung in 1987, the year true Country began dying.

SO! Did anyone get to see the Desert Rose Band last week, or did Covid cancel it?

Frank
