Not a word in the press about the Hiroshima and Nagasaki atomic bombings on 06 and 09Aug45. He who forgets history is doomed to repeat it.

Those events finally ended the war with Japan in 1945 and many believe it saved many American and Allied lives from being lost in trying to take Japan with conventional weapons. The power of these weapons were beyond anything we knew and was the beginning of the atomic age and the creation of so many more deadly atomic weapons. The cold war began and the shear number of weapons that the USSR and the USA manufactured was staggering, enough to wipe out the world many times over.

One such weapon was the Atomic Canon, which the US affectionally called "Atomic Annie", a large piece of mobile artillery which could fire an atomic projectile some 26 miles to target. I built a "Renwal" model of this weapon as a kid but had never actually seen a real one until 4 years ago when I got to visit the Atomic Museum in Albuquerque NM. It really made me think about how dangerous the world was back in the 50's and it seems to be headed that way again. Below is a snapshot of me with Atomic Annie. This museum should be on your bucket list of places to see. It is sobering.
