The heroes of my lifetime are falling around me like leaves from an autumn tree.
Cyprus' Dickran Gobalian died ystrdy. His obituary (obviously written by himself) stated his age as 127 years.
Altho he struggled for 45 years to separate his private life from his public performance life, we have learned that he was born in Cyprus (but only 69 years ago), moved to Canada, became renamed LEON REDBONE and, in 1975, set the United States on fire with his very first TV appearance on Saturday Night Live.
I have been a fan ever since.
His style and appearance were 100% unique and antiquated; he had no place in modern society, which made him a smash hit overnight. I guess I was finally an official member of a counter-culture-cult when I adopted Leon Redbone as one of my heroes.
