Not that I knew this, but just happen to see the news on the car show calendar I was looking at online. My Mother was a huge fan, and part of my inheritance was every movie he ever made, a library of books, Pictures and nick nacks. O yeah, can't forget the Barbie Dolls too. Any Fans? I'll be selling the stuff on ebay in the winter time. More stuff than I need. But Hey, the site is open to Honor the man, If any one wants to chime in and give a history lesson. I will keep the pictures of Graceland my mother took.

I know he owned a BMW 507 which has recently been re-discovered and is undergoing total restoration. I lived in Memphis for a few years but never got to Graceland.

It was this time of year in 1956 that Elvis Presley made his television debut. Contrary to public belief, Elvis made his first TV appearance on Stage Show. Stage Show began as a summer replacement for Jackie Gleason in 1955 and featured a big band under the direction of Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey. In the fall it was scheduled as a half-hour show, hosted by Jack Carter in the 30 minute time slot prior to the Honeymooners. Elvis' first appearance was on Jan 28, 1956. He was brought back on Feb 4, Feb 11, Feb 18, Mar 17, and Mar 24. The audience grew younger each week.
My source of info is personal memory with details supplied by Google.

Older than I care to admit,

Alan

Never be ashamed of having lived long, my friend. It takes wisdom and tenacity to survive in today's social climate. You represent more-wonderful periods of our nation's progress and have much to share with today's lost generations.

In the words of an immortal country song..."I forgot more than you'll ever know" about her.

I'm one of the old five and dimers who hangs out at our local VFD. Actually a bit more than hanging out. I'm Financial Secretary in charge of funds coming in. Last night one of the guys was cleaning up listening to modern country music. Every singer I mentioned he did not have a clue. Not even there Everly Brothers, George Jones, The Carter Family, Hank Williams or Jim Reeves. I didn't dare to mention Lester and Earl. Hell. I was born in '43 and am familiar with Glenn Miller, The Dorsey Brothers and Jo Stafford, Allen Freed, and Chuck Berry.

The times they are a'changin'!

Old but "not" in the way,

Alan

I got mental pictures of every name you mentioned. :D

The Carters! AP and Mother Maybelle! June Carter Cash! Possum Eyes! The great Jim Reeves and a dozen more. Don't forget Virginia Peterson Hensley (Patsy), either. Hank Snow. Roy Acuff. Hank Williams.

Who's gonna fill their shoes?
Who's gonna stand that tall?
Who's gonna sing the Opry,
and the Wasbash Cannonball?

I've read this thread and didn't give it much thought until today when my wife received an email from her brother who attached a clip of an Elvis interview from 1956.
As it turns out, Evy's brother's girlfriend's grandfather was a journalist by the name of Hy Gardner. He did this interview with Elvis back in 1956.

God save us from the evils of Rock and roll :P

A clip of someone "twerking" would have probably given Hy a heart attack!
Check out the interview on this YouTube link:
