Our member Irv Rich was present at Sebring in the summer of Long Ago, when Zora Duntov first rolled the Corvette Mako prototype out of the trailer for its maiden trial. Irv took a bunch of shots of the car and still has one today, framed in his home.

Notice the similarities to the 1957 D-Type Jaguar:

That's a great tribute. I really like the back side.

Hi Dave, nice to "hear" you in here. Where are you from?

I agree about the rear treatment. Some of it splashed onto the 1955 Pontiac station wagon.

Really cool concept car. This past summer my wife and I toured Colorado. We stopped in at the Gateway Auto Museum in Gateway CO which was awesome. The pics posted reminded me of the prototype Olds 88 which was a centerpiece of the museum. I believe it was bought for the museum at a Barrett Jackson auction a few years ago for $3.8 million. You can see the Harley Earl design theme in both the Corvette "Nomad" and the 88.

 Wow. Never saw that before! An Oldsmobile Corvette! What engine would it have had?

Do you think it was 'glass, or steel? In an era of fins and front bumper D-cup "protuberances", the Corvette was released as the only smooth, round-cornered car in America. I guess it would have been a nightmare to repair fiberglass fins? The early light pods were probably bad enough.

The F88 car was actually created in 1954 and did have a fiberglass body. It also had a 324cid Super 88 Olds V8 angine with a 4 bbl carburetor. Unfortunately Olds lost out to the sister Chevrolet division which ended up producing the Corvette model instead. As most of you know, the Corvette was introduced with the smaller "Blue Flame" 6 cylinder engine. Google "Olds F88" and you will see more pictures, histories and videos. I would also strongly recommend visiting the Gateway Auto Museum in Gateway CO if you are ever in the area. Oh, minor correction. The Olds sold back in 2005 at the BJ auction for $3.3 million.

And I am enjoying the fact that I finally stumped Frank T for a change!
