Tom Petty has died at age 66. He was stricken at home, found unconscious and not breathing, and taken by ambulance to the hospital. They pronounced him dead. He would have turned 67 in 18 more days.
One of my favorite modern musicians. I liked everything he sang with the Traveling Wilburys, and of course his own songs. He sold more than 80million records and was inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Remember Tom: He began singing in 1970, the year my Z was made.

Some of his bigger hits:

I won't back down https://youtu.be/k2h9HPZhqHE
American Girl https://youtu.be/tXkblbJqwn0
MaryJane's last dance https://youtu.be/SMSZALOGF_M
Don't come around here no more https://youtu.be/h0JvF9vpqx8
Free Falling https://youtu.be/T3phscjgc_A
In concert with Bob Dylan (My Back Pages, etc) https://youtu.be/rGEIMCWob3U
With the Traveling Wilburys https://youtu.be/cwqhdRs4jyA
And dozens of others.

Farewell Thomas Earl Petty of Gainesville, Florida. Thanks for the 47 years of music.

Contemporary performers, like ourselves, are not getting any younger.
Now more then ever if you have an opportunity to see them perform make sure you go, otherwise you may not get another chance.
That is why I now attend everything I want to . . . Just saw Roger Waters (74) last week and it was well worth the $$.
Last show I saw on that level performance was The Eagles and now I cant see them the same again.
I feel very lucky to have seen the performers I have and now that some have passed on I will never see them again live.

Another great musician gone. Listened to "Free Falling" this morning with my wife.

Karl is so right on this. The really great artists we enjoyed during our youth are disappearing fast. This past August, my wife and I went to Bethel Woods NY (original Woodstock site) to see Santana. Awesome concert and what was even cooler was that we got to see him play in 1969 at Woodstock! By the way, Carlos' wife is the drummer in the band and she is awesome!

Wait.....you were at Woodstock???

I personally invented this shirt in 1993. It was printed locally and sold nation-wide. My original had WOODSTOCK in quotes ("WOODSTOCK"). It of course referred to the wooden-stocked M-14 rifle we carried in Nam. Sgt Grit bought the rights to it and omitted the quotation marks. Another Marine made a bumper sticker using my saying, which I actually liked better than my own original design. Today I only have a good bar story to show for it (and I no longer drink). I still have the first T shirt and sweatshirt that came off the printer. Later variations featured emblems from other service branches, but none sold better than the Marine Corps EGA.

I had duty the weekend of the Woodstock concert and couldn't believe what I was hearing on the radio.
