A 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO became the very first car in the WORLD to ever command $1million dollars at auction, back in 1989. Since then their prices have simply skyrocketed steadily, making them no-risk gold chip investments for profit seekers. Buy an early-'60s GTO for "$X" today, hold it for a year or two, and sell it for "$X + X".

Each GTO was handmade, so it was slightly different from all the others. Any one of them is instantly identifiable as a 250GTO, and will make you STOP in your tracks and pay homage to it.

I recall watching these cars race at Watkins Glen when I was a kid. They reached 190mph on LeMans' Mulsanne straight. Nothing in the world sounded like their V-12 Columbo engines. It was mesmerizing and scary at the same time ~ like some hungry banshee howling in the night. With the scream of their engines bouncing off the hills surrounding The Glen, the ambiance took on an eerie atmosphere, as if something unseen was flying around, looking for prey. That wasn't far from true. I can still get goosebumps hearing one of these cars at speed.

See for yrslf: here is a gathering of the remaining GTOs, less than 10yrs ago:

BTW, this one sold for $38+ million, rather than the estimated $58 million people think it's worth.

The first car in the world to break the $30million dollar auction price (and thus become the most expensive car ever sold at auction up to that time) was a Bugatti Atlantique Coupe just about 4 years ago. That same car had sat on the showroom floor at our F40 Motorsports in Middletown less than 2 yrs before that auction.

Here's one of the three Atlantique Coupes, this one owned by Ralph Lauren. They estimate it to be worth $40million today, if it was offered for auction. It's not for sale. But in just 4 years they have increased in value by about $10million dollars.
