Here’s the list of the 10 most-frequently stolen *USED* cars from all model years taken during 2013, according to the NICB, with total units cited:

1. Honda Accord, 53,995
2. Honda Civic, 45,001
3. Chevrolet Silverado, 27,809
4. Ford F-150, 26,494
5. Toyota Camry, 14,420
6. Dodge/Ram Pickup, 11,347
7. Dodge Caravan, 10,911
8. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee, 9,272
9. Toyota Corolla, 9,010
10. Nissan Altima, 8,892

And here’s the top 10 list of *NEW* vehicles (from the 2013 model year) stolen last year, also based on NICB data:

1. Nissan Altima, 810
2. Ford Fusion, 793
3. Ford F-150, 775
4. Toyota Corolla, 669
5. Chevrolet Impala, 654
6. Hyundai Elantra, 541
7. Dodge Charger, 536
8. Chevrolet Malibu, 529
9. Chevrolet Cruze, 499
10. Ford Focus, 483

Is there a lesson here? I note that the most-stolen NEW cars represent less than 10% of the least-stolen USED cars (which coincidentally happens to be the exact same Nissan Altima). That makes the Altima the least-stolen USED car, but the most-stolen NEW car. Could that be either an industry trend for anti-theft improvement, or that used-car owners are just plain careless about safeguarding their cars? Are we all just more careful with a new car than we are with our used models?

Used Hondas lead the numbers in thefts, while NEW Hondas don't even appear in the Top Ten. Somebody want to explain the black market for Altimas, Civics and Accords?

 Oh, I hope this link works!

I just queried Neon Thefts into the NHTSA statistics databank to see how many get stolen each year.
The only year they recorded ANY theft of a Neon was in 1998, and they had *ONE* stolen!!!
I'm pretty sure we'd learn that it was some kid taking his parents' car without permission and the folks reported it "stolen" before he intentionally drove it into a lake!

LMAO the Chrysler one from 98' had 1 theft . . . . . :P
99 was obviously a popular year as the theft rate doubled to 2
But the export version proved to be the most popular with 2 stolen in 96' and 3 stolen in 97' Man those 97's were sweet . . . . I wonder if it raised the insurance premium with such an increase in the theft rate ?

 Neons are so bad, not even car thieves want them!

About 5-6 years ago, PreZident Ross played an April Fools joke on us by announcing the CTZCC was joining forces with the CT Neon Club (no such animal) and they would now be welcome to attend all our functions and bring their cars to our shows and Annual Fall Outing picnic, etc.

Members thought it was real and actually flooded our In Boxes with resignations.
