Post subject:  Remembering Juan Manuel Fangio

Argentina's Juan Fangio (El Maestro) was 5 times World Champion, at a time when steering wheels were fat and tires were skinny. Here he is in the wonderful mid-'50s Lancia Ferrari D50, sliding the tail thru Monaco's Gasometer Hairpin. Notice the parked cars along the street route.

He was known for always hand-carrying the little hat box he displays, to each race he ran. It was his only hand-carried luggage, containing his driving gloves, racing bib, goggles and helmet. He took those with him everywhere, not caring if his team or supporters brought any of his other luggage or not.

He introduced and perfected the techniques of the 4-wheel-drift and steering the car thru tight turns by breaking the tail loose with the throttle. Examples of those "Fangio" creations are being demonstrated and described in the musical slo-mo part of this video.

All other Grand Prix racers thru history have been measured against the great Tazio Nuvolari and Juan Manuel Fangio.

Just thought you should know.
