Phil Everly, 1/2 of the harmonic, iconic, incredible baritone and tenor black-guitar playing Everly Brothers duo, has died at age 74.

Born to professional C&W singer parents, the Everly Brothers (Don and Phil) harmonized together since childhood and became national icons during the 1950s and '60s. If you weren't there, there's no way to understand what an impact they had on teenagers (and upcoming singers and songwriters) of that era. If you WERE there, you don't need me to explain.

Both the brothers joined the Marines together after Korea and served out their time before Vietnam. A military funeral is rated for either of them.

I can remember scores of events during my youth, when groups of us sang Everly Brothers songs while riding our bikes, camping, hiking, working on motorcycles or sportscars, eating lunch at school or doing lawn work together. Even my girlfriends and I used to sing to them while sitting alone on the Cape Cod beaches at night. Anyone with more than 100 grey hairs can relate. Here, take a stroll down Memory Lane with me:

"Bye Bye Love" (1957) "Wake Up Little Susie" (1957) "All I Have to Do Is Dream" (1958) "Bird Dog" (1958) "Devoted to You" (1958) "Let It Be Me" (1960) "Cathy's Clown" (1960) "When Will I Be Loved" (1960) "Be-Bop-A-Lula" (1960) "Lucille" (1960) "Walk Right Back" (1961) "Ebony Eyes" (1961) "Temptation" (1961) "Don't Blame Me" (1961) "Crying in the Rain" (1962) "The Price of Love" (1965) "Love Is Strange (1965) "Bowling Green" (1967) "Love of the Common People" (1967) "Carolina in My Mind" (1969) "Brother Jukebox" (1977) "On the Wings of a Nightingale" (1984) "Ballad of a Teenage Queen" (1989).

The Everlys had 35 single Top-100 hit songs, more than any other R&R duo.

Farewell Phil Everly. Thanks for the countless memories. I'll do my cryin' in the rain.
