My sweet daughter Laura, most of you guyZ know her from our last visit, becomes AuPair in CT. She gets her commitment of her host family from Stamford. Laura will start her new career in November. I"'m extremely proud and glad that she'll be in good hands and in your neighborhood. She promised to join a meeting and I promised to visit her more than once :)

WONDERFUL!!

Give her my phone number and tell her to contact us as soon as her bags are unpacked. She is still here among "family" (sort of) so she'll have plenty of help if she ever needs anything.

Frank

Felipe

An aupair is another word for nanny. She will live in the home with the family.

That's great Thor! We'll take care of her if she needs anything. Feel free to put her in touch with me. I live in Darien, right over the border from Stamford.

Don't you call it an au pair girl in US? She will live with an US family, care for their children etc. and earns money. She learns a lot about US everyday life and cultures, she will travel on her holidays..... Goody!

She will arrive in November, after the Z season is finished and our cars are in hibernation for the winter. But she will see Christmas (Weihnachten) in New England and our wonderful Spring (Fruhling) and she will be invited to attend our monthly meetings. She can represent you, Thor! :D It will be great to zee her again.

AuPair is French for "equal to", meaning the foreign Nanny lives within the family and becomes an equal to them (like a daughter), but not forever. It's a grand way to learn the customs of a foreign country and usually a wonderful experience for adventurous teens. It's regulated by the government to keep everyone safe and ensure the AuPair is fairly paid and provided for. It would be wonderful if Laura had a whole community within CT she could turn to when she needed advice or a chance to escape her host home.

I remember Laura's English was already pretty good two years ago, and she's no doubt improved even more since then. Still, having friends in CT who can teach her more English is always helpful. And those of you who speak German will certainly be a welcome relief for her after a few weeks.

We had a French girl live with us for a summer about 5 years ago, and she learned English very quickly. But one day we took her to the local high school looking for the French teacher, just so she could 'let her hair down' and speak French for an hour. It's a relief to speak your own language again!

Come on, Laura ~ you're among friends here.

Frank

I spoke with Laura via SKYPE over this past weekend. She is excited about her upcoming adventure and preparing for her trip. Her English sounded excellent and she sounded very grateful for having us all as friends in her new environment.
If she ever needs anything or just wants to explore CT on a day off, she knows she only has to call one of us and we will be happy to help her out. Hopefully she will have a Wednesday night off to attend some 2014 meetings with us.

AND, this gives us an excuse to zee Thor again every now and then. :D

Du Bist Sehr Welcommen hier, Laura!

Frank
