Today I parked the 80zx on the street in front of my garage while I did a quick run to town to home depot for something. I was gone a total of 45 minutes . When I got back someone had hit and caved in the drivers front fender of my zx. It is pushed it in about a foot. It must have been a 4x4 pickup or suv that hit it. It was tall enough that it's bumper went above my tire. It brought the front and back lips of the fender at the bottom in so much that they both touch the tire now .No notes just a hit and run. My daughter was home but didn't see it happen so I know no one rang the doorbell to tell us they hit it. I was and still am to some extend really PO'd. I live in a town of 18 hundred people and stuff like this just doesn't happen. %&*$#@%

 Oh, NO!!!

What a miserable thing to do!! Did the cops investigate it at all? Back in the day I was a traffic investigator and learned some handy ways to determine who hit what.

Is there a driveway across from where you live? Maybe someone visiting there backed out? A side-swipe would leave paint and rubber smears along your fender. This sounds like a straight-on Kamikazi. Paint transfers can tell you pretty specifically what make of vehicle (and often, year) hit you. Ask your neighbors (especially the kids) if they saw anything.

If your insurance doesn't cover hit/run, maybe we can help you find a replacement fender. I would also be suspicious of the L/F suspension.

Count to 10. Don't hit anybody. It might work out for the better eventually.

(It's so easy to be optimistic when it's someone else's Z  )

Frank

"...karma will get the guy who did it..."

Why are we assuming it was a GUY? A real MAN would have stopped and reported it. This was probably a drunk, an immature, irresponsible (uninsured) teenager, or a female who has no appreciation for the car. I have often had nightmares wherein I accidently smashed into some exotic (expensive) car, and felt worse about it than the owner did.
How can anyone sleep after doing that? :x

agreed Frank. i think we could all relate to how we would feel banging into some exotic sports car.

I have always been super careful where I park my Z staying far away from anyone else’s car. Last week my daughter in law door dinged my Z with my Chrysler in my own driveway. Nothing like Bill’s problem but that’s my story.

 Oh NO! Not the Cool Z!!

Isn't that grounds for divorcing her from the family?

Your insurance company will have a ball with that claim ~ your car hits your car on your property. :( That happened to me once back in 1972. My buddy ran my 1961 BMW motorcycle across my lawn and into the side of my 1969 Dodge Charger, parked in my driveway.

GEICO wouldn't even talk to me about it.
At least Wild Bill has some hope of a claim.

Frank
