NPR Radio announced today on it's TechTalk feature, that Korean computer giant SAMSUNG has been caught at ~ and admitted to ~ "Key Tracking".

Key Tracking allows a company (or an individual) to record EVERY STROKE you make on your keyboard, if the computer or keyboard is made by their company.

As I understand this, if I pay all my bills and do my banking by computer, and happen to own a SAMSUNG computer (or even just their keyboard), every number and letter I type can be (and is) recorded by SAMSUNG. That would mean all my bank accounts, SSAN, charge card accounts and verification numbers, home information and phone number, etc, would be recorded by SAMSUNG.
Additionally, all emails, stored records or self-typed documents, address lists, phone lists, and visited websites are known and recorded by SAMSUNG. Every internet screen you view is recorded and retrievable by them, too.

At this time of the year (TAXES!) that causes me some stress! One more reason to NOT trust your classified material over the computer.

SAMSUNG has apologized and promised not to do this again, but really,
tell me the CIA doesn't do this every chance they get! :x

Frank

That stuff is all over Frank. As an IT provider to a major Defense Contractor we are only allowed to use computers that use american made computer chips for that very reason.

I had to google this out of curiosity. The washington post reports this was a false alarm...

Phil, I'm going to guess that severely limits your options, eh?? :?
