Something about a Street Warriors project chopping up a 240Z.

OK, I missed this.

In 5,000 words or fewer, can you describe what happened?

The final cars...

The white one was chosen the winner, I think because one of the judges was the guy that designed the Bat Mobile and the Munster's Hot Rod. Tacky.

At least the Red one has some 240Z left to it.

1973 from what they stated.

Also said were comments like 'the old Z is junk', 'It still feels like a Datsun' and another comment by the Munster Mobile "expert" that the handling of the red car was heavier than the white car. Even though there were no differences shown between either car's suspension or brakes (might have both been stock, for all we know)besides wheel/tire size. Removal of the roof would have taken away a large portion of structural rigidity. I seriously question the judges' credibility. Both cars were complete hack jobs (to their defense, done in under 72 hours), but at least the red team maintained some of the spirit of the car. Judging was biased against the red team for "not being ambitious enough" and staying too close to the car's original look. Yet in the previous show that I caught the tail end of, neither team strayed far from the original lines of the Monte Carlos they worked on. Show seems rigged.

The white car was an ambitious clone of the Mach 5 a la Speed Racer. That's about all I'll say of it.

My favorite comment though was in response to the challenging team leader's mission statement that they were going to build their Z into a euro-inspired sportscar, to which one of his lackeys replied, "Its not European, its f***ing Japanese!"

I watched this program only for the chance to see what they would do with a Z, and now I'm done. I'm not so much irritated about how "yet another classic has been butchered beyond repair". My stance on cars is that its the owners decision to hack/sculpt/change anything they wish, and that like life itself the time of any car is going to end some day due to inevitable attrition. What does bother me is the lack of taste and annoying reality programming.

Back to BBC and Top Gear. At least its done well.

The "expert" judge was none other than George Barris who designed and built the 60s Batmobile, Munster Coach, Monkeemobile and many many more back in the psychedelic 1960s.....

Look at it this way, TWO MORE 240Zs bite the dust, making the ones that are left worth a wee bit more!

:D
