Good news! Almost all of the snow around my sheds has melted and I am days away from taking the Z's out..

Bad news! All of that snow that melted ended up running down the hill and ended up here:

My basement...nothing valuable has been lost. I keep only the junk down there. The mechanicals are up on a shelf for good reason.

..back to watching the pump.

OH NOOOOO!!! I'm sorry to see that, but glad nothing of value got lost. I remember in 2004 we had a torrential downpour on camp Pendleton for a day in the early spring. We woke up at 1am to someone bashing on the doors to our second floor rooms in the barracks. Essentially, whatever water had become trapped on the nearby hillside had come rushing down, completely flooding ground floor with over a foot of water. We spent a few hours scooping mud through the rushing water by hand into sandbags in a fruitless attempt to block the flow to the barracks, until whatever duty was on charge decided to give up. It was a total mess. The water was gone by daybreak though.

Yup, I'm spending my entire day doing the same thing. All that rain chased the glacier away from around my house, but it ran and hid in my family room. :(

Shoes, wastebaskets and other plastic items are floating around in about 2" of water. I have been using the ShopVac since 0800. It takes 12 seconds to fill the 8 gallon tank, then I have to dump it. My back is complaining already. The rugs and carpet are done. My "go-pack" is too heavy to float, and the survival stuff in it is impervious to water, but it suddenly weighs 35lbs!

SIGH! :?

I pumped it down to about 3" from 25". I shut off the pump because it mins at 3". Had lunch. When I went back down, there was another 15" that had come in!! My house must have a river under it!

Frank water in the living space is the worse. Good luck and keep at it! Summer is around the corner now.

That only works for Chuck Norris.

Frank, Home Depot had this nice little pump that screws to a garden hose for about $80. It sucks flat off the floor. You might want to save your back and take a spin.

Thanks Dave ~ just sent the wife out to get one. Good idea (my back thanks you, too).

I like the idea about the ShamWows, except that they would probably then weigh more than the carpet I have to haul up out of there.

A magician friend gave me a bottle of some magic powder which makes all the water in a drinking glass disappear instantly. I wonder if I threw the whole box of it down there........... 8)

I just did 60 buckets (480 gallons, 3840lbs).
Wife is on her way home with two(2) of those pumps. I'm taking a break.

Today turned out to be 14hrs of water removal, interspersed by a few brief breaks. I took Dave's suggestion and bought two of those bilge pumps (they're $110 here in the Tax State) and just ran them constantly for the past 8hrs. All the standing water's gone and some spots are actually dry.

I'll leave the pumps off overnight and see how much water comes back in. I left everything (hoses) hooked up so I can just plug the pumps back in tmrw morning if needed.

Where I live it's illegal to pump your basement flood into a storm drain, so I had to run the hoses out to the yard. No doubt some of it will find its way back home again, but I can handle that.

My back is screaming. I feel like I've been in a barfight.

Today would have been an EXCELLENT day to take the Z out, too! Roads were washed clean and were completely dry. It's just unfair...... :(

I feel your pain in there. Weather is warming up here also and soon our houses will look like the picture i attached. It's been taken few years back from small village nearby. That is quite normal here in these flats, we have absolutely NO elevation here.

BUT think about the bright side, soon the snow has melted and Z-zeason begins!!!

I was delighted about all the rain washing the salt off the roads. Ironically, all the water I had to pump down my driveway ran into the street, spurring the salt crews to come by and throw a ton of salt, up and down the road in front of my house. Grrrrr.

I can't win.

Frank, keep the pumps ready, more rain coming.

You're right Dave, they're predicting another full 24hrs of heavy rain, beginning tonight. They don't want us to relax too soon.

Let's move to Finland. It actually looks dryer there.

Frank
