Another early Z conquers old Germany.
"Rocky", a wonderful specimen of the Z-Mecca collection, did arrive in Bremerhaven and will start it's second life on this continent soon.
The pics are pretty similar to those of my Z in Rotterdam....

:D

Nice car, Thor, is that yours too, or did someone else buy it?

I would say it looks like a 1972, maybe a late 1971?
But I don't believe that #920 Safari Gold was offered for 1972.
Neither do I remember the air filter box with the warm air intake
diverter being on the '71's.
So I would have to conclude that it is a '71 with a '72 air filter box,
or a '72 with a repaint.
Or even more likely, that my memory is playing tricks on me and
the Series 2 1971's (VIN 21200+/- and following) were so equipped.
Knowing the VIN# and build date might help resolve the issue.

No. Rick its not mine it belongs to a friend. As I know it's a 1971 in perfect condition. I saw the car this summer in Z-mecca. Really great!

Hi Rick,
FWIW, my car - titled as a '71, was delivered with the flapper style air filter box. It had only two decals on the top - missing the one with the graphic for the various adjusting screws.

Just for grins, I went to Jim Frederick's site and found Rocky still visible. The video does a pan of the driver's side door pillar - the VIN is 23996, build date of 05/71. Interesting observation in the video: the console has both the choke AND throttle levers. I thought the throttle lever was dropped sometime in '70. My car certainly did not come with one. Here's the link (no pun intended Thor!).

This is Michael's new Z! He saw Thor's Z and became bitten with the Z Bug. We will be hearing more from Michael and about this car. The car's name is 'Rocky'.

We also have joined another member from France this week! That makes two Zs in France and 2 Zs in Germany! :D

Frank

*(PS: I must say, it makes me very nervous to see that crane hovering above that beautiful Z! Somebody move something, please!)

Thanks, Jim, I appreciate the info. Being "out of the Z loop" for so many
years, I guess I forgot a lot of the details I once knew, and I'm grateful
to everyone who is helping to "bring me back up to speed." BTW I just
want everyone to know IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH AGE!

So now we know the transition must have taken place between our VIN#
06289 (6/70) and your #15230 (12/70), not between the 1971 and 72
model years as I had wrongly conjectured. Nor at the Series 1 vs.
Series 2 juncture, for that matter.

Yet another entry to my Z trivia "diary;" now I have to further refine
that entry every time I see a Z that falls within that VIN range. I bet
ZNut John T, or Mike B near Seattle, can help me reduce the gap.
