BTW that type of Datsun is special because that is the type that Mr K and
his team ran in, and WON, a rugged Australian rallye. They weren't
expected by anyone to even FINISH the rallye, yet won it. One of the
earliest of the events that began to put Datsun on the map. And one
which also began to launch Mr K's career to stardom despite the
numerous obstacles constantly placed in his path by the shortsighted top
management of the day.

Right Rick ~ we have a picture of that rallye car somewhere in this website, with a dented fender from hitting a kangaroo (probably really a Wallaby). That was the race which focused Datsun's attention onto Mr. K.

Ah ~ here we are. The 1958 Datsun 210 Bluebird Once Around Australia Rallye class winner, complete with Drama Fender.

Notice that they carefully prepared this car for that grueling 1,000km race, by removing the hubcaps and windscreen wipers. The car won its class, to the amaZement of all.
