Obviouzly the work of some renegade tree huggerz...

I kind of like it, myself.
I had one just like it when I was the heir apparent to my Mom's house.
I had it built that way intentionally; the right wall (as you look at this
picture) comprised much of the fence along the rear side of her inground
pool, which was behind and parallel to the house. Also, there was a
room extending beyond the back of the garage, also alongside the pool,
for bathers to use to get inside out of the rain or sun, and a bathroom/
changing room and pool filter room beyond that. Did I mention the full
length Z partZ loft above the whole thing...............

I can't determine the dimensions of this garage nor its distance beyond
the tree, but in my case, there was no problem at all in backing a Z
into each side of the garage with plenty of clearance both past the tree
and within the building. A little added security: "can't be any cars in
there; the tree's in the way!" Why keep the tree at all? To honor my
Dad. When he was alive he planted several black walnut trees which,
by the time I built the garage, had become beautiful, full, nut-bearing
trees which I couldn't bring myself to cut down.

I can't speak for the owner of the garage in the picture, however.
