Here's me guiding a buck off the lake in the ADK's, he was swimming in circles until I chased him to the shore. Dad saw me coming and grabbed the camera moments from shore.

Dang it, Clay ~ we could have LOST you  No more funerals for us, pleaZe.

When you take flight school, the first practical application they teach you is how to LAND.

When you get certified in a 'yak, the first practical application SHOULD be how to rotate out of an inversion.

Both exercises are supposed to increase your chances of survival in a worst-case scenario.

When I lived in Branford, my next door neighbor was a canoe and 'yak instructor. He was retired, well into his 60s, and had been paddling since he was about 12. He demonstrated inversion recovery to me several times, so I know he knew what he was doing. His 'yak inverted on him by surprise in the B'ford channel one summer and if it had not been for the two guys 'yakking with him, he would have drowned.

I stay away from those things because (a) I don't know what I'm doing and (b) I suspect they are coffin-size for a reason.

Frank

Keith, that's a sorry-looking buck. No antlers at this time of the year? Down home he would have been a spikehorn ~ all ears and no rack.

Good thing he didn't get tired, panic, and try to climb aboard with you!

Great idea Keith!
Anytime after the crack 'o noon iz fine if you want extra float time.
I'll be busy but you 'yakkers can practice survival, fish or just explore.

Anyways, a spur of the moment meet has been arranged for 10am tomorrow at Collinsville Canoe and Kayak for a few hours of playing around in these little things.

Me, Cam and possibly his buddie, Chris and his GF, and maybe a few more, be at my house a little before 9:30 in Meriden and we can cruise up... I wont have my Z, so it's not an official Z cruise...

The photo was a few years back and he did have some small antlers that are hard to see in the photo. I originally went to get the "branches" so a water skier would not get tangled, but they were huffing and puffing. I figured the only way to prove what I saw was to guide him to my parents property. He was pretty easy to steer and a fast swimmer. I yelled to my Dad to get my camera (35MM pre-digital), this was the only shot, the buck was minutes from touching bottom.

Hope to see ya in the Pond next weekend.

Once this bug bites you....it's all over.

I'm already planing on making an outrigger for mine, just bought a fish finder, bought a ton of fishing equipment, and have plans to just buy what I need to get some sweet stripers this fall.

Funds that I sat aside for the CRX is all gone...
Funds to pay off the Subaru dropped significantly...
Funds for the Z...is almost non-existant...

(but registered the Z today) right at the end of summer.

Funny thing once you get past the price of the yak. Its the other stuff that snowballs. The Thule rack was a eye opener

tell me about it...

I went with the full Thule rack system for 2 kayaks... and I only have one kayak...

but looking at it later, since I got the fold down set, I can toss the canoe on as well, and have piece of mind for anything I toss on the car.
