as everyone knows, i sold my old 260z to a man in france. this was an ordeal, to say the least! it took about two months for him to receive the car from my house to his port, after customs. jarno just emailed me he has driven the car from the port to his home, a distance of 850 miles without a problem, and is in love. and his wife is in love! yes, with each other, and with the car!! that is a brave man to chance driving a car you do not know from a person you do not know all that way on roads you do not know!we now have one of our cars in france with ctzcc stickers in the windows and the man is wearing a ctzcc hat. so we are now world wide. i asked him to send pics to our site and keep us updated. now germany and france can fight it out who can get the most thumbs up as they travel around their countrysides. i wish jarno the best of luck with my old tin can and welcome to the world of zcars. miles of smiles to our brother jarno!!!

I need help, Mike. (Okay, everybody else, no sarcastic remarks! I
know what you're thinking.)

Okay, the car was sold to Jarno (a Finnish name, hence pronounced
Yarno), but then you are talking about France and Germany. I'm
aware that going from country to country in Europe isn't much differ-
ent from going from state to state here. Any clue about why Yarno,
I mean Jarno, is in France other than to show off his new Trophy Z?
(Very similar to a trophy wife, with exceptions of course.)

He's a Finn, living in France, near the port of Monaco. He fell in love with the old Z cars and wanted one. He discovered us and bought Mike's beautiful Z car. Mike is still suffering withdrawls.

The old Zs are even scarcer in Europe than they are here. Datsun sent about 7,000 of the first 10,000 Z cars to America (their intended market) and the remaining 3,000 went to the rest of the world. England got TWO, for example.

Thor had similar problems finding one in Germany. They just aren't available over there. Anyone who has one, keeps it.

I predict we will either hear LOTS more from Jarno now (singing the praiZes of Mike's old Z), or else we'll hear NOTHING from him, while he wears successive sets of tires off the car!

I can just imagine how happy he must be! I wonder if they celebrate Father's Day over there? Great way to spend the day!

the reason jarno went to germany to pick up the car was because the duties were way to high going to france, where he lives. i can't see how he saved money, because he flew to germany and stayed overnight and then got the car. when he saw the car he decided to drive it home instead of hiring a company to transport it. it took 18 hours and 850 miles to get it home. it was full to the top with extra parts and only enough room for a driver.he is very trusting, not only of me, but of a car he knows nothing about! i wonder how fast he went on the autobaun, the front spoiler was taken off for shipping. we all know what these cars are like at high speeds without the spoiler in place. we wait for the whole story from jarno. ok jarno , tell us the scoop. mike

Oh, he picked it up im DEUTSCHLAND??? What a wonderful ride he must have had, back across Germany and thru France!

I thought it got delivered to France. Too bad Thor couldn't have met him at the port in his 240Z! They could have had a bit of sport on the way home 8)

Well Mike, Jarno's already 'bonded' with the car now ~ no chance of ever getting it back from him after that!

well scotty, this is hard to say, but this is the first time in 33 years i have not had a zcar under my butt! i looked around far and wide and all i saw was clapped out junk or over priced junk. i came close to buying a car in kingston from the original owner. the car was nice with 45,000 miles, but the kicker was he bragged that nothing had been changed at all. you know what that means, i'd be doing all the changing, and i'm not up to it at this time, health wise.so, this is hard to say, but i'll spit it out, i bought a '05 mustang gt with 8500 miles from the original owner.the car has had some changes to it and it drives like a dream.these cars were my second choice, so after not finding what i wanted in a zcar i started looking in this direction. i have had my brother tom on my butt about my choice, but now he sees' it was a good move for me, and he has backed off. i have not given up on a zcar yet, just not right now. you can't quit a free club, so i'm still a member and will attend as many functions as i can, or until you guys ride me out of town on a rail. mike

Hey, guys, lay off of Brother Mike.
He's a fixture around here.
And like my cousin Walt, who is driving a Mustang w/a 351 in it
while building his recently-acquired 260Z, I view Mike as doing
very much the same till he gets back in a Z.
Except for the building part.

Mike might be the very first member who ever sold his Z and remained "Z-less".

I wonder if that requires us to remove his photos from the MEMBER RIDES gallery?

Maybe we should simply change the name under his 260 pictures to Jarno? That way, every time he zees the pictures, he'll be reminded about what each of us already knows:

NEVER SELL YOUR Z!!!

as for tom never talking to me again, he has to, he's my brother for life, we attend all car functions together, z or zless. hey sarge, get off your high horse, who let their zcar go years ago??? lol!! i have let more zcars go than most of the club ever owned, but i always found another to drag home, even if it didn't make the pitbull happy! old habits die hard, and i am a creature of habit.who knows, lucky 22 might be right around the corner. mike

Well, you're right, Mike. But I learned a powerful lesson when I sold "my" Z ~ NEVER SELL YOUR Z!

It took me 23 years to find my own Z again and buy it back. I can't describe how I felt all those years without my Z. I won't make that horrible mistake again.

Don't get me wrong, Mike ~ we still love 'ya, but we're wondering about your 'clarity of thought' ............ selling your Z without a replacement is like walking out into the desert without water ~ you just don't do it if you can avoid it, and you're lucky if you survive it.

Roger that, Frank!
I guess we just have to understand there are three schools of thought.

Some, like Mike, Tom, Paul, who else? Those who change their Z's
as often as you and I change our underwear and socks.

Others who just get 'em and never turn loose of 'em. (Why is everyone
looking in OUR direction?)

And the rarest breed of all, those who turn loose of 'em, take a "Z
vacation," and go back to the same one!

BTW let's not forget the criterion for membership isn't OWNING a Z.....
