Let me be the first.

I'm not at all amazed that a (liberal) Government agency went to
the unwarranted expense of denigrating a strong competitor of
their own producer (Government Motors) (GM) publicly.

Come to think of it, from their liberal viewpoint, maybe it was a
good expense as a PR ploy for their own inferior products. After
all, if they are throwing around trillions like you and I spring for
an occasional Starbucks or Dunkin' Donuts, what's a few extra
thousand if it will advance your agenda?

Hey, Tom Was, how did you revert to being a teenager again?
How about teaching me that trick so I can start over and not do some
of the dumb things I did over the years? And so I have more life left
to live and enjoy Kathy and Z's and you guys?

The very first runaway truck ramp I ever saw in my lifetime was on the Pali Highway in Oahu, Hawaii. I thought it was a great idea.

I had sold a 1965 Pontiac Catalina to a fellow Marine, with the understanding that it had a broken motor mount and, under certain conditions, the power steering pump could torque the engine off the frame and send the gas pedal to the floor. So with the knowledge that this car could 'take off' without notice, he bought it cheap but never fixed it.

One night coming back to base from the Honolulu bars with a car full of very 'happy' young Marines, he decided to 'test' the truck ramp to see if it would indeed stop him if this 389 Poncho ever really ran away from him.

He punched the gas, got it up to about 70 downhill, then steered straight into the truck ramp. The gravel was about 4ft deep and it stopped the car in about 10 feet! All six of them wound up on the dashboard as the car sank up to the doors in the gravel.

Nobody was seriously injured, but he had to pay to have the car towed back onto the highway and then pay the DOT to re-level the gravel. The HPD gave him a ticket for IMPROPER LANE USEAGE.

He was drunk out of his mind and could have gone to jail. He was too drunk, in fact, to think to use the IDEAL excuse that the car had run away with him! It would have been visually confirmable if he had thought about it.
