I've been looking for something charitible the CTZCC could become involved in that does not require finacial support from our members or the club, especially since we have no dues and a lot of us make financial donations to our own charities.

I came across: DVD's for Vets http://www.dvds4vets.org/

I have contacted them and they are thrilled that our club would gather DVD's for them. Check out thier website for details.

Thier mission is to provide veterans who for any reasons cannot obtain DVDs on their own. They are not politically affiliated nor solicit or receive financial assistance. Donors help by giving new and used movies to Veterans, especially to those with limited access, in order to view the latest Hollywood releases.

Portable DVD players are greatly appreciated.

HERE's WHAT WE CAN DO: At each CTZCC monthly meeting bring those DVD's that you've seen so many times that you are not really watching anymore or DVD's that you know you are not going to watch anymore or DVD's you know will cheer up a US veteran recovering from injuries sustained serving our country. DVD's can be previouly viewed or new and unopened.

Feel free to collect from your family and friends if they have 1 or 2 or more DVD's to donate and bring them to our monthly meetings.

I will ship the donated DVD's to the HQ in Harrison, NY or set-up a "Fun Run" to the HQ or a VA Hospital in CT that is in need of DVD's.

Thanks for your help...I'll remind you of this activity in each of the monthly meeting threads.

As a Purple Heart veteran and Life Member of (among others) the VFW,
DAV, and Military Order of the Purple Heart, I strongly support this idea
and would encourage others to do the same.

Are VCR tapes included or only DVD's? (Come on guys, I didn't say
8mm movies)!!

BTW we could also do a community service and get some good PR for
the Club by sponsoring or co-sponsoring a blood drive. Maybe at a
venue which not only could hold the ARC setup but which had a parking
area suitable to display a bunch of Z Cars as an additional "draw".......
Might even attract a few new members out of the deal..........

What's a "VCR" ? Actually, DVD's only for this cause. And in reallity I do know what VCR is.... my college Degree is in Video Production. Back then 3/4" tape was king about to be taken over by Betamax.... I still have some projects saved on 3/4"...never to be veiwed again.

Rick we can talk about your blood drive idea. I just got back into the blood donating after a few years off, working on my second gallon. Even if we can't set up a blood drive of our own, it may be fun to find a regular big drive to show up as a group, give some blood together, and enjoy a couple of cookies and juice at the canteen.

Good plan, and VCR tapes would be nice too, after all they still sell VCR's. I have a bunch I was going to give to the library, but I'll save em for this cause.

Thinking of our friend Liam Dwyer recovering from serious wounds in Bethesda, MD. I'd like to continue to collect DVD's for all Veterans recovering. Please bring to any monthly meeting.
