I think I opened up a full can of worms....

But in a way...I'm glad the car gave me so many problems so I wouldn't drive it...it's temperament with old wires might have saved my life....

now I got to decide if I look for a new shell, junk this shell, and build up a new car, or rebuild this car completely....which might take a long time.....or build up the brown car in it's place, and sell all the stuff I put into the brown car...either way, I'll have a lot of work to do, with three project cars, 3 tons of parts, and a limited bank account....

Well...on to some of the rot.... natural weight reduction...rust.

Wow. It never looked that bad right-side-up.

I hate Tinworms!

If anyone wants to retire early and make a fortune, build a fiberglass shell for these cars which uses the same framerails.

hehe....

8)

Welp...just spent some more time poking and prodding, scrapping and ripping...just too much rust.

All the critical areas are effected, and now completely unsafe, and not worth the work to even do...

So I got to strip it completely down with all the decent and salvageable parts....and send it off to the junkyard...

AIR,

Wouldn't a set of floor boards, frame rails and rocker panels clean up most of the rust? The rest of the car seemed pretty solid to me....

As of 9:35 am today, I have decided to pull the plug on my little baby... It lived a respectable life...was rebuilt, pampered, abused, played with, went thru 3 transplants, and had a collection of shoes that would make any woman jealous. Just as another transplant was getting lined up, something with more power, more speed, and a full new look, cancer was found.:( The pre-op looked recoverable, but after looking deeper into the hidden areas, more cancer was found... The passivation is terminal, the hydrated iron oxides was just to much for the frail 70's era Japanese metals that the patient was equipped with. With the failing corroded wires, and the constant dying on the road, and the track, it was trying to tell me that it didn't want to carry me and the wife anymore safely...and that it didn't have the strength to withstand a bigger powerplant...

It's sole survivor, which is the same year and make, shall receive the full organs the patient has donated, and shall have more of a chance to live on for a few more years, since the same cancer is only in the pimple (puberty) stage compared to the the deceased.

Old Red Z, you will be missed....:(

Nope..the rust made it up to the tunnel, the rear, the front end, both frame rails, areas in the rocker panels, the cross member....etc...

the only way to save it would be a full tube front end, a full floor and tunnel, and the full rear end...event the rear bumper tubes are gone...literally...

it's a sad sight.... :(

and where are those pics from last weekend.... 8)

Dang! That's quite a eulogy ~ I'm fighting back a tear.

But you hit on the ONE WORD which makes all the sense in the world ~ SAFELY.

As difficult as it ever is to see an old friend go, that's the primary concern for determining the car's future. How disappointed you must be.

Wonder how the front clip would look, "emerging" from the side of your tire shed?

**(AND BY THE WAY, Air ~ You've got over 900 hits on this thread, making it by far the most-read article in the Club's history. Old Red will be remembered in the Z hall of fame for that reaZon alone).

Very sorry for your loss, Clayton. Always remember the good timezzz!

We'll have to raise a glass at your April 25th Swap Meet. We will mention your swap meet invitation at the Meeting on Wednesday!

Frank, yup...safely is the main point...and time.....and money....The only people that could save it would be the TV shows like pimp my ride...and they are hacks if they can do it it in a day or two....plus, it's not worth it.

I'm really glad that Doug didn't buy the brown Z now....but now I have 3 engines that can make a crap load of power, and a ton of extra spare parts..............literally...maybe 2 tons....

And Keith, there will be a few toasts at the meet, and prolly a lot of free spare parts to toss to a few people...any one need a rare and stock 260 suspension?
