I sure do...if everything goes right, I'll shoot for sat. I got two cherry pickers, so when the car is going up I'll need some hands to steady it so it doesn't flip over on it's own.

I'll be in the garage all day, but I'll say the majority of the help would be needed at about 12-4.

Air, you're having way TOO much fun!! You need to share some of it. I agree with Frank, do you need any help breaking down the red Z?

Phil

Might be fun to see you dressed "grubby", Phil ~ you always dress up whenever you leave your house. EMail me off screen and we'll set up a time to help AJ, and also to continue the calendar effort.

you can bring the coffee, or what ever you want... I'll supply the best pizza and wings around 4-ish.

Got some more work done today...

The rotis is now 90% done.

All that is left is to measure the lower center bar, find a way to connect it, cut, and drill hole. Then fab up the rear mounting piece to the bumper supports. Then clean up the garage...and make room to bring a car in.

:P

more pics... welds are getting better.

So lets total this up...

Chop saw, Drill press, bench sander, angle grinder, band saw, and extra blades and cutting disks. ..... $621.30

Welder, with cart, alum spool gun, shipped. ...$1,254.76

Shelf for work bench ... $51.99

Counter top. ... $119.99

Welding helmet and a spool of flux core. ...$135.68

2 engine stands, and sacrificing a 3rd engine stand I already had. ...$127.18

Other consumables and hardware from Home Depot. ...$119.78

Steel for the rotis, and enough to build up a Vice table... $270.00

Bottle of argon/CO2, welding tips, welding table, welding jacket, another spool of wire, etc. ...$423.55

$3125

Setting the shop up with a sweet Rotis, and equipment to fab for a few years... priceless.

If i bought a rotis..it would be about $1500 shipped.

A guy wanted $2500 to just install my 10 point cage into the Z, and I already have all the tubing pre-bent and on hand... And another $1500 to weld up the rust on the car....then another $2500 to install and get the RB25DET running.... and $2500-3000 to sandblast the car.....

I was ( l----l ) this close to going for it, but I figured I could do a better job, and save money if I got off my lazy butt. Plus have everything to aircraft quality, and not to a fab shop quality standards..

/end mini rant.

Well, it's the priceless part that counts. Now are you sand blasting the whole car all the way down to bare metal ? That can be scary on a Z, but hey, what metal isn't there you can just weld in new metal. I'm almost done stripping my 79 and want to do the same,of course that soda blasting sounds interesting, and I also wonder if there is a way or place that can just acid dunk it, ummmm. Well good luck with her, can't wait to see the final project.

Hi AJ,

Looks good, aaahhh "priceless"...... Are you really gonna trust the strenght of 2, 3/8 bolts to hold your precious work? Maybe you could add a piece of flat 1/4 steel to the back of the U shaped holder and utilize the four holes on the stand?? Just an idea!! or will it handle the load? If you have heavy weight on there the bolts may pull through? Distribute the load on a wider surface area??? Just my 2$, where's the cents button!!!!!! Now you don't NEED NO stinking welder!! U R the welder! 8) The money is well worth it, for future projects....

BG!

VERY nice tool collection. On a related note, there's only a few more days left in this month's craftsman club. 50% off open stock sockets and wrenches... and I got lucky, an open stock 14mm gear wrench was also half price! Its a good way to fill in some gaps, or pick up odd balls like extensions or torx. SOMEBODY has to stimulate this economy, right?

AJ, why do I keep thinking the clevis pin / eye-screw thingy should go on the other side of the red stand collar? Shouldn't it prevent the black sleeve from sliding out?

I guess once you attached the brackets to the car, the cherry picker would use that eye to lift the car.........then you would have to have it like that in order to slip it onto the stand. Right?

That was the original idea...but it changed.

I didn't get as much done today as I thought I would... :( so that means more work tomorrow :(

It looks like I might have to tweek the stand a little bit more. and weld some tabs or plates to pick up two more mounting spots on the cars frame.

And then clean up the mess, and get the car a little lighter by taking off the doors, hood, hatch, wheels...etc.

Ooooooo! I like that.

OK, so if you have all that left to do, do you still need a Pit Crew to show up there tmrw? You already took a night off this week to work on the stand ~ they'll only put up with so much of that.

If you prefer we hold off until another time, Sound Off.

*(Oh, yeah ~ and don't forget to DRAIN everything first! No fun flipping a Z full of oil, fuel, brake fluid, antifreeze, gear oil....makes a mess, gets momma angry, EPA gets involved immediately after the fire dept leaves).
