I was enjoying a pleasant, fast drive up NY Route 17 when I spotted a parked State Trooper cruiser. Just as I started to slow, the radar detector set off a laser alarm and the cop was on my back bumper in no time. Unlike the radar beam that gives half a mile of warning, the laser alert just lets you know that a ticket is on its way to you. Every other State Trooper cruiser I encountered on my way to Niagara was using radar, not laser. Let's hope that they are not upgrading their equipment. It must have been "Be Nice to Geezers Day" because the trooper let me off with a friendly warning for 88 in a 65 mph zone. Maybe he has a Z at home!

I can tell you to never speed on 17, it's the drug route from NYC to Binghamton. Was it that cop or his buddy up on the bridge? The cop in the median is the decoy, you were probably all ready tagged before you saw him. Probably around Liberty.
