I never realized until recently that the current F1 race cars are actually hybrids. This well-done video describes the intricacies of these high-tech machines in great detail. I knew these cars were sophisticated, but nowhere near what they actually are today.

Enjoy!

1.8 million views in 19 days?!

Well, I guess my teenaged dreams of ever becoming an F-1 race mechanic are somewhat dim now. I studied that diagram for 21 minutes and couldn't even locate the catalytic converter. No cup holder either, altho they do have a flex straw to a water bag. No fire suppression system either.

These cars are spaceships compared to the upright, no seatbelt, no rollbar racers of my yute.

I also found this to be an interesting video on how a F1 transmission works. He also does one on the clutch, which is basically only used only during the start of the race.

Cheers!

I wonder how Fangio would do in a modern F1 car.
