Post subject: | FAREWELL DON EVERLY |
An icon of Americana has died. The last of the two Everly Brothers, (Isaac) Don Everly, died Saturday 21Aug in Nashville. He was 84. The Everlys rocked the nation and the world during the 1950s, '60s and '70s with original harmonic hits, mostly written by Don. They took a 10 year break, then reunited in 1983 to perform together again until 2014, when Don's younger brother Phil died at age 75. Their mom has outlived them both. They had served in the Marines together and occasionally performed in uniform. Their legacy influenced a dozen later major R&R groups. Every Baby Boomer grew up harmonizing to the Everly Brothers. Teenage girls in poodle skirts and penny loafers were swept away by their perfect harmony in diatonic thirds and 'dreamy looks'. Take a moment today and hum your favorite Everly tune. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Everly_Brothers Farewell Everly Brothers. The Brylcreem kids will miss you forever. |
