Post subject:  Surprised on Father's Day!

I hope all of you fathers out there enjoyed your Father's Day. I was able to enjoy the company of my family and friends for which I am eternally grateful. To top it off, my three grown children surprised me with a very special present that just blew me away!

It turns out that they purchased an antique toy for me which was identical to the one I had when I was about 6 years old and played with for many years until I eventually gave it away to a young boy that lived next door to me. I happened to show my kids a picture of this toy that I found on the internet some months ago and mentioned to them that this was "my all time favorite toy as a kid". I described the type of toys we had to play with "back in the day" with no electronics, no batteries, not much plastic; just simple sturdy toys. The picture I showed them was was of a die cast metal "semi" which was modeled after a 1952 Ford F8 "Big Job" truck. The toy was manufactured by the Hubley Kiddie Toy Company in Lancaster PA and it was my absolute favorite toy that I played with so much that I literally wore the axles out causing the rubber wheels to fall off. My Dad had fabricated new axles for it which allowed me to continue playing with this great little truck for many more carpet miles.

I actually got a bit emotional when I opened up the box to discover something so special from my own childhood. I can't say I had a lot of toys growing up but those I did have always made me happy. I mean, what else are toys for anyway?

I have attached a picture of this truck. The paint is a little worn from other children that must have enjoyed it and I would never want to repaint it. Maybe it will put a smile on your faces also.

How absolutely cool! That had better earn a hallowed spot on your bedroom dresser so you can see it each night when you turn out the lights, and first thing every morning when you get up.
What a great gift. A real blast from the past.

May we picture you laying face-down on the living room rug, 'driving' this thing around while making truck noises?

 :D

Good job, kids! Massive Kudos.

John,
A wonderful story and super memories.

I too had a great "Father's Day". Grandson, Nate, is on leave and home for the first time in 18 months. He is stationed in Germany and was very restricted during this pandemic. It was wonderful to hug his rather large frame once again. We enjoyed a great steak and lobster dinner at daughter Maureen's home in Newington with our two kids and three grandkids.

We're very lucky to have all so close. Patrick and family live in Cheshire, Maureen is in Newington.

Alan
