Edd China's looking for stalled projects to help get back on track, or at least he was when this video aired. As usual I'm late to the party but it's a good watch anyway. I've got a soft spot for MK1 VWs.

Hi Jay!

I enjoyed the video clip. I'm also one who liked the early Golf GTI's. It's amazing that car had no rust given the winter conditions in Norway. Sounded sweet.

Cheers!

Hi John!

Yes I was thinking the same. About the rust and the sound!

Loved the GTI child seat too, that was a nice touch.

Rain and snow don't cause rust, roadsalt does.

I agree with you Frank....mostly. I think the biggest and worst offender causing rot on our vehicles is road salt for sure. The frame on my 2017 Toyota truck looks much older than it should due to the harshness of our road treatments.

That said, I wouldn't say moisture doesn't cause oxidation. Take a bare steel panel or piece of stock like angle iron, shine it up and douse it with water....then watch it develop surface rust right in front of you. Moisture can be a cause of rusty metal, but if the metal is well covered with paint and wax it's mostly kept at bay.

Another example would be cars being stored on dirt floor barns for many years at a time. I've pulled a few and the bodies were great, the undercarriages were heavily rusted....every bit of them. That's due to the moisture from the earth, not salt.

Someone suggested I put road salt in my gravel driveway for weed control which I'm sure works, but Vinegar has been working good so far. No chemicals. Those Toyota trucks always seem to have frame rot issues. My 07 doesn't look so hot either. Haven't they thought about Galvanized by now.
