As a kid in high school I was given the opportunity to drive and work on a couple of early Minis, an 850 and a Cooper S. I fell in love with these little cars and still think they were one of the most fun cars I ever drove. This video clip takes the old Mini to a whole new level of performance which is insane. Long live the Mini! Check it out.

Great cars!
During the summer vacation of 1965 one of our high school buddies worked for a Go-Kart track. After they shut down each night and the owner had cashed-out and gone home, Bill's jobs were to clean the place up, wheel all the Karts into the garage, refuel and oil them, turn off the lights and lock the gate.

Another kid in our class had a beaten-up Mini Cooper (the old one with the tiny wheels) and my best friend had a 1960 Bugeye Sprite. These were the days when Paddy Hopkirk and Pat Moss were flogging Minis to wins at the European rallies, beating everything else on the track. About a dozen of us kids would arrive at the closed track for some fun. Bill opened the gates for us but kept the track lights off and let those two cars race eachother around the Go-Kart track.

We usually opened the Mini's rear hatch and seated two guys facing backwards, dragging their shoes out the back and spraying beer while John tried to catch them in the Sprite. Amazing that so many of us even survived the '60s.
