I want one, The smaller(sizewize for storing) the better, for use around the garage (mostly tires, blowing dust/dirt off things, etc...) and maybe to install trim as I want to redo my window trim in my townhouse.

I've looked at 2 gallon - 7 gallon. Husky, Crafstman, Campbell hausefeld. But am not sure how much I really for fairly limited use.

Let hear what you are using, if you like what you have, and any suggestions you may have. Thankz.

I have four different compressors...one for my workshop (I'm a professional woodworker and contractor) and garage, one large portable for large nailers and occasional impact tool use, one small pancake compressor, and one small compressor for my airbrush. I use the pancake compressor most; it's as easy to pick up and move around as a large suitcase, and is fine for finish nailers, and occasional use with a larger nailer. It would be adequate for very occasional impact tool use, but would not be good for use with a die grinder, or for blowing out my entire garage, or for spray painting. For you I would recommend the largest wheeled portable you can get, taking into consideration how much you anticipate having to load or unload it from vehicles or move it up and down steps. If you won't be moving it much, get a bigger one. If you're tight on space, get one that stands upright. My large portable is a 17 gallon 1.7 HP Husky, but if it were my only compressor I would get something larger, and just put up with the added difficulty of moving it.I don't recommend that you buy a used one, unless you personally know that the seller hasn't used it. These are one tool that can get all used up without ever getting all scratched up and beat looking.

For anyone watching... I bought this. Should be fine for what I want to do. Gift certificates are great!

With the finish nailer I paid $240. The Christmas gift cert and Cash made my budget a little better. This will work perfect aorund the the town home and garage. Easy to store!

I already pulled the old 1/4" round trim off my dining room double windows and pulled out the loosly stuffed pink insulation (windows are great, but drafting where installed). Will stop by the Depot on the way home to pick up Great Suff foam, phenoseal, and a few pieces of primed pine trim pieces. The windows in my old town home are only a few years old and the original set-up was boxed in with sheet rock with a sill and 1/4" round trim over the gap.

Will have three more to do after this one.

Keith,

I see on your suspension thread that you used your new compressor with an impact air tool. Was the compressor able to power the impaact wrench sufficently or did it "run out of air"? The reason I ask is that my compressor is about the same size as yours and I've debated whether I should invest in some air tools before upgrading the compressor.

Thanks,

Phil,
I have a compressor that size and it handles an impact gun easily. I use it for the lug nuts on the wheels and I did the big nut on the end of the crankshaft with no difficulty.

Phil,

It worked just fine. It would not do for a NASCAR pit stop crew, but it handled a bolt at a time at the pace I was working. And it made my garage sound cool.
