So I bought a $6 can of Black Plastidip and sprayed my driver's side wheels. The wheels are not perfect and need a paint job over the winter, so I am testing out what Black might look like.

What do you think? Comments? You won't insult me either way. ThankZ.

First impression:

Your car looks evil and I wouldn't want to fight you.

Interested in the PlastiDip tho ~ have heard lots about it and am curious about it. Please tell us if it flings off in-flight or in the washbay.

PS ~ with the cloudless sky reflecting on your car in the 'before' picture, it looks like you went nutZ with the spray can and painted your whole "blue" car black. The non-initiated should be told you started with a black car to begin with.

I swapped out the non-painted wheels photo that Frank was referring to. The one I posted had some photo effects on it.

It's really coincidental that you did this now ~ just last week I was trying to picture my 240 with black-annodiZed or black ceramic-coated 5-slots.

Generally not a fan of black wheels but on the 370 with red brakes it looks great.

Frank
It's a rubberized product that you can apply via spray or brush (or dip hence the name).
I have used it for several projects and it really holds up well to repeated washes. One good thing about it is if you get sick of it or have to redo, it peels off nicely. It's fairly cheap and comes in a variety of colors. You do have to be careful about the temperature, it doesn't like cold, it comes out clumpy. Get some and experiment.

Frank if you used PlastiDip and decided you did not like it you can just peel it off.

here is a demonstration video on Youtube >>>>>>>>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPNNAC7lOro

Keith I think they look good and it is certainly a inexpensive way to do them.

Thanks for sharing re Plastidip product.
Hate to be a spoilsport, but I think chrome/alloy wheels do more to enhance the lines of the 350. Taking the wheels black seems to make the car "dumpy". I hate dumpy cars (and girls).
I often see Scion TCs re-fitted with black wheels - now there is a great example of making a dumpy car even uglier.
At least this stuff peels off and you can undo any mistakes or changes of heart. Wish life was like that.

On the other hand, if black wheels are good enough for Catrinel Menghia, they're good enough for me. 8)

I'll never forget the first time I saw her.

Hmmm....PlastiDip.....if I ever decide on a life of crime, I will paint my getaway car various colors with PlastiDip, then peel it off after I get far from the bank.

I like it, Keith. The flat black has the style of many wheels equipped on Japanese racecars of the 80s and 90s.

It's a no go for me. Black to me just hides the wheels.

I've done both sides and will leave it for a while...The Plastidip does come off very simply. I still have mixed feelings, about 50-50 on Silver vs Black.

Most people who see it in person say it looks pretty good. I'll leave them black for the Meeting on WED AUG. 13th, at Grossman Nissan in Old Saybrook.

See you next week.
