Here's a photo of my Z with the Wheels Painted.
Duplicolor Graphite Wheel paint and clear coat - 3 coats each. It was a fun weekend project before the Fall Outing. These wheels were a little beat up when I bought them, so I was willing to take a chance with a home paint job. I'll let you know how they hold up.

Keith, let us know how they handle wear and tear! I wanted to powder coat mine but it is expensive and I hear it can degrade the integrity of the wheel, so this would be a much better option!

I painted Megan's tired and oxidized Mazda Protege wheels about two years ago with that same Duplicolor paint, albeit lighter silver in color. It kept the stock look, while not being quite as authentically alloy-looking when viewed from up close. It's held up the entire time, no chips or anything even through harsh winter driving. I'm more than impressed with this "temporary fix".

Looks great to me!

Did you through a clear coat over them?

No clear coat on the ones I did. I seriously considered it at the time, but we had to get the car going within a couple days. It turned out they didn't need a clear after all.

I am reluctant to offer my services. I can deal with making mistakes on my car, but not on others. You can do it. Here is what I did.

Duplicolor wheel paint (graphite) and wheel clear coat.

-remove wheels from car.
-Degrease wheels and tires
-scuff all the gloss out of the factory paint with a scotch bright pad. Scotch Bright scuff the inside of the wheel too.
-rinse and let dry.
-deflate tire and put index cards between the rim and tire on front side. taped valve stem.
-I painted the inside of the wheel first. 3 coats of color no clear coat.
-after the inside paint dried I scuffed the overspray off the front of the wheel and wiped with a tack cloth.
-on the front I sprayed 3 coats of color, 10 minutes apart.
-the waited a half hour and sprayed 3 coats of clear coat 10 minutes apart.
-let dry and pull out index cards and re-inflate - put on car.
*I painted center caps too. Degreased, scuffed and painted color and clear
**I only painted 2 wheels at a time.

Cover anything in the garage you don't want overspray on. Wear a mask/filter.

So far the paint is holding up, painted my '05 Pathfinder wheels too. They will be the true test of durability. I'll keep you posted.

James,

I'll be driving the Z around this weekend between Groton and Old Saybrook.

Let me know if you want to shoot down route 9 and take a look.

I work at Island Cove Marina - we can meet there.
47 Sunrise Ave - Old Saybrook, CT

I can be there any time Fri-Sun. Except Saturday 9a - 1pm.

I'll PM my cell phone.

Here's my Pathfinder with the same paint. After this photo I removed the running boards and painted the roof rack the same color as the wheels.
