That's right! I recall "meeting" that car in our very first conversation!
I seem to remember you sold it to buy your Z?

Not to purchase the Z - that was 40 years ago. It was to purchase the X(terra).

I appreciate all the support and input I am receiving in this most
momentous decision. But in reality, I think I am getting
confuseder and confuseder.

The Bug looks too tan.
The Vette is a much later model and is too orangey.
The Porsche is too gold; it doesn't look that far off from Lucky 13.
The Mustangs made my head spin: I had no idea there were that
many yellows in Mustangs alone, and in the pictures they looked
every shade, in addition to GOLD and even PINK. Must have some-
thing to do with the lighting: angle of incidence, angle of reflection,
natural or artificial light, bright and clear, overcast...........

Although the '68 Corporate yellow, the '93 Canary yellow, the '98
and '99 Chrome yellow, and the 2010 Yellow Jacket by Roush all
looked good in the pix.

Crazy it may sound, but the yellow submarine looked the best of all.

Our Lab pup Honey is trying so hard to help; she's sitting here with
her chin in my lap trying to help me choose an appropriate yellow
(and even providing me her AKC show standard to compare it to).

I hope I don't sound like an ingrate, but this is a lot like choosing a
color from the color chips in the paint department at Home Depot.
They have hundreds of colors to choose from, and can custom mix
any of hundreds more. But it seems that no matter what color you
choose, it never looks the same on the walls as it did on the chip.

That is a frightening thought indeed when you are confronted with a
possible cash outlay of a couple grand or more, just for painting.
I'd rather not have to do it over again at those prices.

I think I'll go back to jumping out of airplanes and getting shot at
for a living. It was a lot easier and a lot less frightening.

Very true. That's not even including labor prices, since I assume you're not spraying it yourself.

And the end result is all in the PREP, SPRAY and RUB. It's the hours of labor to do the job right that is the difference between a "20 footer" and a show quality paint job. It is one instance where you truly get what you pay for.

Fly Yellow was my first and only color consideraton for #958. Original color was the burnt orange and although I may have committed a sin to the almighty in some small way, Fly yellow in my opinion is the color suited for the car. Nice pics of the GBT+4

Hey Rick - trust me, the Porsche "Speed Yellow" is not anything close to 920 Safari Gold. The color rendition in my photo is the problem, I just grabbed a shot that was handy for the post.

My thought on shade differences is that Ferrari Fly Yellow is the lightest, Porsche Speed Yellow a touch darker, and Corvette "?" Yellow a touch darker yet.

You would need to see all of these and any other candidates in person to make a final choice. We all know that computer monitors can be lousy in presenting true color renditions.

Jim, I think I must have said something that made you believe that I
thought the Porsche color to be REALLY, REALLY similar to the 920
Safari Gold. If I was misleading in some way, I apologize. No, I am
very familiar with 920 since it is the color of, indeed the original paint
on, our Lucky 13. Even if I never heard it called Safari Gold back
yonder; mostly "butterscotch."

Ten-four on having to see the colors in person; and even then, differ-
ent lighting conditions and different degrees of paint weathering could
produce what would seem to be different shades.

Dave, no question about it, yours is one gorgeous Z Car and your color
selection goes a long way toward enhancing the work done on her.
Ever since Frank suggested Fly Yellow, that is a color that has been
catching my eye, too. 8)

Now this might sound crazy (might as well stay true to my character),
but my mind is having a hard time accepting Fly Yellow because of 1)
the copycat syndrome (you already have that color); 2) my fetish for
originality in the lower VINs (militates toward 919 Sunshine Yellow);
and (ready for this?) the NAME of the color. I know, I know. It sounds
stupid, but I'm just trying to be honest about things.

But FLY Yellow just seems to BUG me.
