Has anybody in the club converted their 240z from 4 to 5 lugs???

I have a sweet set of black Enkei 92s with a 5x114.3 lug wheel pattern that I would like to run on my 72 240z... They are 15x7 w/16 offset up front and 15x7 w/ 0 offset in back.

I did a little research on the web and it seems like there are a few different approaches:

0.) Do nothing and get 4 lug wheels that fit (Rota, Pana, Wata, HRE, Enkei, etc etc..)

1.) Replace the 4 lug hubs with new aftermarket 5 lug hubs:

http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=59
http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=71

2.) Use an adapter to convert from 4 to 5 lugs

http://www.ezaccessory.com/Wheel_Adapter_4_Lug_4_5_To_5_Lug_4_5_p/4450-5450.htm

3.) Find and install 300zx 5 lug hubs

Opinions?

Thanks for weighing in,
Marc

The adaptors would probably be the least costly way to go if you are
intent on using the Enkei 92's.
On the other hand, if you have in mind to use the Enkei's simply
because you have them, but in your heart you really, really like some
other type of rim, selling the Enkei's would raise some of the money
toward buying your "dream wheel set."
And finally, if you plan to give your Z some hard use, such as in auto-
crossing or tracking, the 5-lug option would give you a measure of
strength over the 4-lug. Allthough in many years around Datsuns in
general and Z's in particular, I have never seen one shear one lug,
much less all four. Maybe Vinnie has in his travels..............

Hi Marc ~

Yeah, I agree with Rick.

But in any matter involving wheels (or tires), my last stop is ALWAYS AirJockie. He's forgotten more about wheels than I ever learned, and he's so much 'into' them, he had to build a separate garage just to keep all his spares and toys. (Ask Rick ~ he just saw it last month).

And he's free!

Look him up in the MemberList, or find any of his Posts and press his PM or Email button.

That is the MM kit you posted. Only worth the money if you have to have the rims on, be different and want a wider range of wheels to pick from..... if not -don't bother.

Thanks Kathy & Rick, Frank and Clive. I appreciate the responses.

I am into the black Enkei 92's... I think that I am just going to wait till a pair of 4 lug Enkei's show up... I have some time.

The idea is that my car is going to be (eventually) repainted the original silver color and I want the black rims to compliment that...

I will keep y'all posted.

Marc

This is good to know, but my question would be, can you install the 300zx flanges into the 240 hubs????? Of course if I had the 300zx parts car all parted out I could tell myself, but not there yet. Par say, if the wheel bearings would fit from say 70 to 88, the probability would be close.

Adapters are a band aid, so I disagree that is the best way to go. How do I know? I have them.

.5" up front and 1" rear. They put strain on the hub bearings among other things.

Best bet is to do a hub conversion, and considering the age of your car, it is probably a worthwhile repair as much as and upgrade.

I sold my Z31 front hubs to an S30 guy a while back and he did the swap.

I can only assume it bolted on, as I never heard anything from him after words.
