Thanks for re-starting this long-lost Thread. Sorry I erased it last year:oops:

The original Thread had everybody's "dream wheels" in it ~ Ross started it by asking what wheels everyone felt looked best on the Z car.

For my old 1970 240Z, I only ever wanted the 5-slot magneZium wheels by any of the 3 or 4 companies which made them back then (mine were American Mags, but they're no longer available in magneZium).

I picked up a reconditioned set recently and am happy with them. I just haven't found center caps for them yet.

I guess enough time has passed that we can offically "pardon" Frank for erasing the original wheel thread. He has contributed mightily to our Z society so his crime shall be stricken from the Z record. Here is one of my favorite wheels. It was made by Nissan and was available as a dealer option in 1978 and I believe other years prior to '78 as well.

I have a set of these on my Black Pearl and an extra set NEW in the BOX, which I bought for $500 in 2000. I keep thinking I'll sell them some day and with the prices on see on e-bay these days for NOS wheels and covers, they may be worth more than my car soon!

I tried really hard to shine the aluminum slots on mine, but gave up. The brake dust from 35 years of service had "tattooed" itself into the rough aluminum surface in each slot.

I beadblasted each wheel thoroughly, then washed them carefully, and painted them with matt wheel paint. They won't shine up, but that wasn't one of my goals anyway. They make chrome wheels for that.

They came out nicely and didn't cost me near as much as I had already spent on magic cleaners. I'm just having trouble finding center caps for mine. I got the wheels two at a time and, altho they are by the same manufacturer, they are actually different models. One pair has screw holes for screw-on center caps, the other pair doesn't. That pair requires the push-thru caps from inside the wheel. I simply mounted one pair on either side of the car, to present uniformity from whichever side you view it. I'll probably end up tapping holes into the two 'blank' wheels and using four screw-on caps on all 4 wheels.

Who's got a picture of Paul Riccioli's magnificent lime-green 1976 280Z, with the chrome wire wheels?

That car won our BEST OF SHOW award at last year's Z Car Club Car Show, and is the ONLY Z car I've ever seen which looks good wearing wires ~ but it looked SPECTACULAR.

Can't get the photos of that car out of my photobank and into this Forum. Can anyone Post one here?

Frank

Scott, last year about this time, we hosted a fellah from NJZCC who prfessionally cleans and restores vintage roadwheels and steeringwheels. Remember when he gave a presentation at one of our meetings?

He had some pretty nifty tricks to make old 5 slots really shine up well. When I get time, I'll look his name up and post it here. His resultz were nothing short of spectacular.
