I have officially been bitten by the Z bug....

On the hunt for a Z! 240/260/280z not particularly worried which - 280z might actually be the best since it comes with the 2.8 and I won't have to feel bad about having fun with the car. I can handle all the mechanical work so projects are definitely OK- but really looking for a solid shell, ideally with good paint. Runners, Rollers, Ex/Current Race cars - all considered.

$10-15k budget depending on condition.

Trying to avoid the usual market places- facebook/craigslist - most of those cars are too expensive or too rusty. Would love to rescue something from someone’s garage.

Located just outside of Boston but willing to drive ~ Baltimore to Buffalo something I can reach in a day basically.

Still looking for another 510 as well.. but the Z has taken more priority now.

Cheers!
Devon

Did you ask Vinny whether that old 510 he just acquired had any hope left?

Still on the hunt!

Considering S30 chassis as well...

In the solid shell project realm - doesn't need to be a runner, just a solid body, and decent paint is a plus.

Considering swapping the 510 to a CA18DET or a Z to an RB... unless either comes with a solid L in it, then sidedrafts it is!

As updated above - Officially been bitten by the Z bug.

On the hunt!

Someone must know someone with a 280z squirreled away just waiting for a new owner.

I've got my ears open. Check Hemmings Motor News?

Ive got my eyes on everything - craigslist, Facebook, bring a trailer, hemmings, ... etc.

I seem to be stuck in a tough spot looking for something fairly specific. I definitely would like a solid shell and decent paint - the cost of paint work scares me! - but can't afford/don't want a perfect fresh one. Want something I can build up with all the good go fast bits.

Hoping I can save someones long stalled project.

Thanks for keeping a look out Frank!

Dont paint! Much cheaper to WRAP it and you can change it if you don't like it.

Have you looked in Rhode Island craigslist lately??? Look in both sections, cars for sale and parts.

I’ll check it again.

I think there is a Red 260 for too much $$$… and I already have a red car so not looking for a 2nd.

There is a rough black 240 locally here in Boston but it needs a lot of work and is too much $$$ too…

Ill check again though - thanks

Hi Devon! Hope all is well with you.

I took the liberty of checking the values of the 1974 Datsun 260Z using the Hagerty valuation tool online. These are the current market values they had shown for this model Z car.

Excellent condition: $46,500
Good condition: $20,500
Fair condition: $7,700

Note that a "fair condition" car means that it runs but needs cosmetic and mechanical attention.

Unfortunately for you it is a seller's market right now for these cars. I just thought this may give you a baseline to start from. Good luck on your pursuit of your Z car.

Regards,

Thanks John

I have checked those for a base line. And you are right it is unfortunately a sellers market.

I just keep telling myself to be patient and hold out for the right car.

Hi Devon,

I just got off the phone with a guy that I met at a neighborhood car show this summer who wants to sell his 1977 280Z. It's only got around 70K miles on it, and was originally from Arizona, NO RUST! He bought the car around 10 years ago and it has had it garaged since he purchased it. The car ran well up till the time he stopped driving it. He says it needs a brake job and a speedometer cable. The car is green with a tan interior. If you are interested, send me a private message and I will give you his contact information. I have not seen the car. He does want to sell it as he just bought a new truck and needs the garage space.

Cheers!
