Maybe the fuel line diameter variation is that way to set up a venturi (?) to speed up the fuel delivery? Where a large volume(large diameter = more fuel) has to go through a smaller diameter and therefore must speed up because of that decreased diameter? I'm not sure if "faster" fuel delivery is more important than larger volume. Just my opinion and thoughts on why it may be the way it is.

I think I have a manufacturing "opps" in the mechanical fuel pump I bought from the zcardepot. The pump I took out has 5/16" line in and 1/4" line out. The pump I bought has 1/4" on both sides. That makes sense, sucking verse pushing.

Should be metric measurements on both sides.

Did the fuel lines changed diameter over the years? Several other models (some pickup trucks, some Roadsters, some sedans) shared the same pumps and others had specific pumps; maybe they sent you one of the wrong ones by mistake? We can ask Carl Beck or Vinny Bedini whether the fuel line diameter changed on Z cars or not.

Carl Beck advises you unscrew the inlet fixtures on both the old and new pumps and try to screw the old one into the new pump. That way it won't matter which size is right.

Vinny Bedini says the 260 flattop pumps are slightly different than the 240 roundtop pumps but didn't know the inlet lines were different diameters. He asks why it matters? Just swap the inlet fitting from the old pump onto the new pump and the problem is solved.

Starting to sound like a non-problem unless you didn't have an old pump to begin with. Then you would have to find a specific pump. Right now all you need do is swap the inlet fitting and you're good.

Interesting bit of Z trivia, tho!

Another thing to note, if the pump you purchased from Zcardepot has the stamped metal top on it (not a screw on like the original) you may find it doesn't deliver enough fuel at higher rpms.

I was running one earlier this Zeason on my 260z and couldn't pull past 4,500rpm. I finally spoke to Vinny about it and he had me swap an o.e. one back on. She now starts quicker and pulls to 6,000 without issue.

He can get o.e. replacements if you decide you need one.
