Hi, I'm looking for a limited slip diff for a Z31. This is for a lemons race car, it needs to survive for 16 hours of hard running on a road course. Willing to purchase, borrow, rent, or any other creative option.

Thanks.

Is that the one with the finned rear case?
What other cars (beside the Z31) used it?
How can I tell if it's an LSD by looking at it?

Z31.com has a bit of info on when the factory shipped the LSD ---
http://www.z31.com/mods/drivetrain/differential.shtml

I'll see if I can find a picture. I have never actually seen one myself.

There were also a number of aftermarket solutions that could be used to modify the stock open diff. Some of these are real junk and are available on ebay, after checking those out I find they are not suitable for race use and would likely induce a failure. Some of the more robust solutions came from companies like Cusco but I can not seem to locate any. I figured someone here might have one "hanging around", it was worth a shot anyway.

thanks for the reply

Yes, the fins would seem to indicate there's an LSD inside ---

If nobody chimes in saying they have one laying around their garage gathering dust, I suspect your best chance of finding one might be with our member Paul M in Rhode Island

or with our member Clive (Evil Z) in New Yawk,

or with Bedini Motorsports in New Milford

Give Vinny Bedini a call at 860-355-182*9 and tell him you're our Club member (so is he) and ask if he has what you're looking for. He has a huge inventory of good used parts in his Z speed shop business, just like Paul has.

Frank

For quality aftermarket clutch-type units, Cusco, Tomei, Nismo, Kaaz are all good buys. You want to get the models for the 240SX (non VLSD). I have the Tomei 2-way and it works great. Check out: http://www.frsport.com/Tomei-562021-Tec ... _1374.html

Used OEM LSDs for the Z31 are pretty much all gone. The few that are left typically fetch a price higher than a brand new aftermarket unit.

For Helical LSDs, Quaife makes a high quality, but pricey product with a lifetime warranty.
The cheap eBay flavor is known as the OBX r200 helical. There are some forum posts about it and it is not a half bad copy of the quaife, but the hardware (bolts, spring washers) are trash. Check here: http://rbryant.freeshell.org/obx_washers.htm
