I am looking for a main digital dash cluster for my 1984 300ZX turbo. Any from 1984-86 will work. Looking for one that's working (that's ALL the displays!) and in good shape.

Mine works fine, except for the fuel gauge which has gone dark. And yes, I've checked the power supply, it's not that!

Email me zcarnut@hotmail.com if you have one. Thanks!
JT

Funny you post this! That SAME gauge went out on mine, I just got my replacement today. Check out Z31performance.com

I know someone was selling one on the Facebook page. I'll keep my eyes open for ya!

Thanks Filipe. I assume that the entire gauge cluster needs to be replaced, not the individual fuel gauge, correct?

I'm going to pull it this weekend....

Can we get some follow-up on how this worked out? Were you able to isolate and fix the specific problem, or did you end up having to replace the whole unit?

All is well Frank. It was indeed the gauge cluster itself. I sourced a good replacement from a nice fellow in North Carolina who is a die hard Z31 guy.

The replacement of the unit took about 3 hours, the hardest part was taking apart the switch "pods" on the sides of the display, there is a 10mm nut waaaaaay up under the dash holding them in place that requires an extension socket with a swivel head (see pic of Mike Noonan standing on his head, literally, to do so!). We removed the trim pieces, the pods and the steering wheel for easier access. There were only 4 screws holding the digital display in place and it pulled right out from the front. There were four major wiring harnesses connected to it. Then reverse order to put it all back together. The new unit worked like a charm.

I took the bad module to an electronics expert pal of mine and it is composed of THREE separate circuit boards sandwiched on top of each other. The LCD displays are integrated into the boards. We're talking 1984 technology here! I'm hoping that he can repair the fuel gauge on the board so I'll have an extra module just in case.

At least I know how to do it now!

Thanks for the Z History lesson John. Now we know why they had to add T-Tops to the Z31.

It's great to have Irish friends for this kind of job. They're all used to Kissin' the Blarney Stone, so they have no trouble working like that. 8)

Tell Mike I said so.
